Get the evo... you can get a used nicely modded one for less than 28k... just smart when buying your car... and no idea about insurance.. but it'll probably be pretty high..

Get a beater 4g63, learn how to work on it and how to handle speed, then get an EVO.

start with somthing a little slower, or you will end up wrapping it around a tree.

reminds me of a kidde whos dad bought him a lightning truck the day he turned 16. kid blew the motor in a month or 2. so he had dad buy him a build sean hyland motorsports motor, and kennebell blowzilla! car had less than 5000 miles on it! after the install, we conviced the father that if he lvoed his kid, he would have to upgrade brakes and suspension to handle the power. after a TVS hotchkis kit, and BAER brakes all around the truck left our shop. turning out of the parking lot, the kid looped the truck. we all laughed at him. a month or so later, the truck was wrecked. SUPRISE!!!!!!! learning to drive a slow car fast is way better than driving a fast car slow!

You'll hear plenty of *****ing that your parents will shell out 28k for an evo so get ready for it. First, you cant buy an evo out the door for 28k, not even an RS...At least not an 06. Buying used I wouldnt recommend unless you can assure yourself it has never been modded and is still under warranty. If you can get a used 04 or 05 with the 10 year 100k mile warranty with the warranty intact, that'd be a good idea. These cars are insanely expesnive to insure, especially in NJ, they suck down premium gas like a SUV, and they cost an arm and a leg to keep on the road. Tires, brakes etc. are all expensive, even if you drive slowly and dont mod. Honestly, if i was going to be a freshman in college, hell yeah I'd want an evo...But if you are really asking for an honest opinion if it should be your first car, the majority of the people here will say no, its not. And I agree, you should get a new Si or something...Cheap to insure, cheap to keep on the road, decent performance, and u know you wont have problems for the 4 years ur in college and the extra years u'll be in graduate school.

look.. if he's going to wrap a car around a tree it dosen't matter what car he wrecks.. honestly i don't understand why you guys tell him to get a worse car than the evo.. yes the evo does have power, but it also handles very well... when i was his age i had a nice fast car and i didn't wreck it.. infact i've never had a ticket at all. none for anything.. how can you guys say that if he gets an evo he's going to wreck it.. you don't know him at all..

You're on an evo board so naturally you'd think people would tell you to get an evo...

...however, most people on this board are actually gonna tell you NOT to get an evo as your first car. An evo is way too tempting to crash as a first car. I'd tell you to go for the new civic si, or something like that!

another vote for the new Civic Si - looks like a great car, and a little bit more fitted to your situation

I'm not suggesting not get an evo because you cant handle it...I'm suggesting it for price and reliability reasons...You're about to go to college for at least 4 years...plus and extra 2-4 if you do grad/med/law school...Honestly, I feel that its important to have something you never have to worry about during college. Yes the evo handles well, but its expensive, and even if you have 0 problems with, it still causes alot more worries, i.e. changing tires in the winter, changing brakes every 20k miles, filling up with gas twice a week, worrying about someone keying your car or stealing the wing....I think its better to get something you simply can drive drive and forget about while you are in school.
