noisy brakes on the evo 9

I don't know if anybody that owns an evo 9 is having the same problem. My brakes make a screeching noise that is anoying the hell out of me. It only does it when I'm braking slow and softly but if I brake hard, they don't even squeek. I met another guy with an evo 9 with the same problem. We think it's just dust, since we do live in the Arizona desert. I also notice that when I wash my car with the pressurized water hose, the noise will go away for about a week, until the car is dirty again.
I took it back to the dealer and they told me at the beginning that it was because the brakes were so new, they needed to "brake in" and "adjust" before they stop making that noise. They said that if it kept making that noise after the first 1K miles, to bring it in and they would fix it for FREE!! Yeah right! I brought it in after that because the noise was still there, and they told me it would be about a couple of hundred $$ to check it out. The service guy (he must have been no more than 20yrs old) told me they the roters looked "glaced" and probably needed to be resurfaced wich would be another $300 more. I said HELL NO!!!! The brakes are too new to be "glaced" and resurfaced. Anyways I just keep washing them once a week to keep the noise down. Does any of you have the same problem??????? Any thoughts???

Mine did it new, got slightly worse over time. I am at 4.5K now and still doing it once in awhile. Same scenario...during slow/light braking! ahhhhhh...the joys of owning a rally car

Mine has 16,000 on it and the brakes still squeek occasionally when I stop slowly like John says. I figure that the pads have to be a little harder than normal to provide the stopping power that they do time after time, even when really hot. I'll settle for a little noice to get the stopping distances that have saved my car once already from an idiot running a stop sign. I was driving the only car in OKC that wouldn't have hit him hard.

P.S. make sure the belts are tight!

I use degreaser for the rims and brake calipers then I normally high pressure wash it at home with my 2600psi high pressure gasoline powered engine power washer. That helps me for a couple of days then the problem comes back.

I have the same problem. I drove at about 20 mph and stopped pretty good a few times. It's been 3 days or so, hasn't came back.

Tell me about it. Same thing here. I got people asking why my brakes squeal.....my reply: "They are racing brakes!"

Jesus! I wouldn't do it too often, the paint might come off!!

About the squeel, try installing the pads with the 'Repair kit grease' on the back and side edges of the pads. This has sloved it for a number of people.

My 04 RS did the same thing for awhile but it eventually went away...... The IX is doing it now, (only three weeks old.....) but I'm hoping that it will go away also..... at least I wasn't surprised. It's pretty well documented..... Doesn't hurt a thing either.....

Don't worry about it I've heard brakes on Ferraris sqeak at slow speeds like that. It can be annoying but you know they're working
