The brakes work, it's just anoying hearing the awful screeching when you know you are driving a top of the line car and people turn around and look at you weird .
I'm down here in Sierra Vista actually,.......dont know your BF. I know what you are talking about, it's no the occassional squeak, .......mine was a oud horrendous looooonnnnnng screeching just before the car stopped at a light or a sign, it would screech from both front brakes w/ just barely touching the pedal at a bout less than 5 mph. Once in a while they will make a little squeak now, but before it sounded like a flock of vultures and if that's what it is doing that is not normal for a new car, even w/ brembos. Occasional yes, horrendous wailing all the time no. Do not pay a dime, the dealership should take car of this. Stick to your guns and go in there like its a Ferrari. When I went ot mine I told them what was going on, guy drove it and , yup, well take care of it, I never mentioned if it would cost anything, etc,..... just assumed it was free(which it shoudl be) and just had my plan to get angry just in case they tried to charge me,.....which both times I took it there for the same problem it was free. Don't show them weakness or they will try and get you. Why don't you take your boyfriend with you? If this was happening to my girlfriend I would take the car in myself. Good luck.

DAMN??? What kinda brakes/pads are you used to? Haha, I have had several cars with good brakes and the EVO hangs with any of them if not better. Maybe a stupid newbie reponse but maybe you need to bleed them? Mine has really short play in the brakes and bites pretty hard.

I'm the first one to have the evo 9 so there was nobody else I could ask about their brakes (by now there are 3 more w/ 9's). So don't tell me to do my "search" and try to make us look dumb, because ovbiously we are not. Of course some people will have that problem more than others and my reason to post this threat is to try to get some feedback as to what other people have done to make the noise less noticeable.
OK, maybe it might be too hard for one to type in "brake squeek" or "brake squeak". Since you've been driving your BF's Evo for the last year, you would already know that it doesn't matter if it is the VIII or the IX, since you knew it is the same brakes, so obviously it is going to behave the same. Anyhow, here are some links, since you can't seem to find them.

I've had my IX for a month now with 1700 miles (drivin the hell outta it!) and it still squeaks. Probably just gotta upgrade the pads.

if it's a problem use this: http://www.autobarn.net/squeakrelcal.html
$7and you'll not hear it again (till you change pads and can't find where you put the darn grease last time).

I've had mine for a month (about 1000 miles) and they don't squeak, but I wouldn't be concerned if they started to squeak though.

I think you would if every time you went to stop at a stop light your brakes squealed like you were driving an old rust bucket and had worn out your pads and gone through to the rotor.

Theres a bit of a difference on just squeeling, or...... if the pads are worn out and rotors are grinding. Biggest one is the feeling of the grinding in the pedal. Every car I have owned with big brakes, has squeeled when braking lightly with stock pads. 3 recent Brembo-equipped cars that have squeeled is the EVO, G35, and the STI.....

My roomates 03 evo will do that occasionally, at low speeds. and my work truck (05 F-150) will do that at low speeds too. but the brakes are perfectly fine.

on a side note, never pay 300 for resurfacing. Just take the rotors off and take them to Checkers or Autozone and have them resurface the rotors, onyl costs 40 bucks at the most there. (last time the guy didn't charge me at all ).

If they squeek a little, i wouldn't worry too much. (brake masters does free brake inspections I believe, if you're truely worried), if they start grinding then I'd be looking at new pads/rotors.
