Does the lack of hp before 3k RPM annoy anyone?

I've looked at a few dyno graphs of the new IX' (with supposedly better low-end) and see that at 3k rpm's theres only 105whp!!

That seems really low, how bad is the lack of hp/tq below 3k (even 3.5k) rpms?

Feel really really slow ? On my SRT, it annoys me that there isnt much hp/tq before 2.5k but with the 2.4L and smaller (quicker spooling) turbo, the low end isnt too bad.

It's not annoying, because we don't drive in that RPM range, or at least I don't. Peak torque comes in the mid-3000s (whp isn't relevant) on the 03-05s, and even earlier on the IXs. It is only annoying if you drive around like a grandma trying to accelerate in higher gears at low speed, or if you try to come off the line from a standstill without revving hard. Nothing worse than a bog...

Doesn't annoy me, but there is not much there before the mid 3ks. Especially on a hot summer day with the a/c on. I almost killed it a few times when I first got it and had the a/c on. I have a boost gauge and sometimes I'll go up on the tach to see if I can keep it out of boost (it's not hard, just have to have to be patient). I love to do this with someone who has not been in an Evo. I take it up to about 6,000 grand without hitting the boost (the whole time saying what do you think?). Then I'll go down a gear or two, and let it spool. The look on their face is always amazing! Had a friend that just looked over at me and said wow with a classic stunned look on his face. I have just adjusted my driving style a little and use a few more rpms than I would if I were drving anyting else. You do get better gas mileage if you stay down there more often, but nothing like hitting the 3500 rpm mark (I have an O5).

I say, if you have a turbo, USE IT. Get it above those rpms and you don't have to worry about less hp. I don't mind it.

with my IX and revs upto 2k on the street, it barely starts up, usually get passed by at least one car. (Under normal driving of course). I thought something was wrong with this car, never had a car with absolutely no power under 2k... Talking about going from a stand still.

i run pretty high timing before 3k rpms......low rpm driving is not an issue with my car.

We all run high timing before 3k. It's just what the ECU does naturally. However, it also naturally reduces timing at peak torque to some degree to avoid damage. You don't want too much timing at peak torque. I see 8* through the peak torque area 3500-5000rpm before the timing starts to advance again...

i run about 8.5* at 3-3.5k rpms, not to high at peak torque, but advanced more at low rpm for better turbo spool up....

I only peak at around 20* at redline and still i max out my stock injectors(100% duty cycle)

Doesn't annoy me, plus I love the kick in the pants once it's above 3k. My passengers love it too!

Yeah, 20* at redline is just right. 8.5* 3-3.5k is good. I see upper teens in the spoolup phase between 3-3.5k. It starts high but works its way down to 7-8*, then holds steady until 5k where it starts to climb steadily to 19-20* at redline. Of course, this is ONLY after I got flashed. Before, with just the S-AFC, I was getting 0* at peak torque, then was having to climb all the way back up from 0-20 instead of 8-20. This gave me 20-30 less wtq at peak and much less area under the curve, although my peak whp was about the same.

So normal driving, you go above 3.5k?

If so, what kind of gas mileage do you get?

??? I think you mean to say, "So normal driving, do you ever go below 3.5k?"

Except for the warmup phase when waiting for the engine temps to get up to spec, I spend most of my time above 3.5k until I'm at cruise speed. I boost all over the place in every gear at all times whenever possible. I get 19-20mpg every tank unless I go on a long highway trip, then it approaches 23 or so...
