gonna push this old thead up. I have 06 MR and at cruising speeds in 4th, 5th, and 6th I get a whining noise not when on throttle or when off but when I am just maintaining speed. I am gonna be driving the Evo 2000 miles from Vegas to Nashville and dont really wanna hear that whining. Any ideas guys?

 

It's the transfer case. If it's a faint whine and isn't getting worse, don't worry about it. If it's getting worse or so loud you can't hold a conversation, the transfer case needs replaced.
