New here, just bought an 04....

Well I finally was able to find an Evo that I like that is in awesome condition. The only problem that I see is that it has some mods like intake, wires, boost gauge with air fuel gauge. This is really not a problem, the problem is that written underneath the hood is 272 and 264 cams, cam gears, 680cc injectors and AMS fuel rail. It has a service engine light and it is running kind of crappy. It is also boosting 12psi.
What I need to know if someone cam help is, where is the ECU so I can see if it has been reflashed. I am guessing it probably hasn't. It says also "needs safe tune". I don't know if I got myself into something really bad or not. BTW I planned on doing alot of this stuff anyway .
Another note, the car was purchased at the auction so I don't know the previous owner.

Wow, where to start. I would find a competent tuning shop ASAP to sort out the car before you drive it hard.

What do you mean by "written underneath the hood?"

You will not be able to tell if your ECU has been reflashed by looking at it. I hope the motor is okay.

So I guess you were talking about the exterior? Cause it sounds like it's been beaten on a bit, and as others have said, I'd lay off the gas for a while until you get it checked out by a certified tuner.

Good luck with it!

It was written in sharpie to let someone know what has been done. It was traded in at a Subie dealership, I am hoping that I can get the guy who traded it in and see what the next step will be.

I don't believe so, the car doesn't run THAT bad. My friend thought it might have had a boost controller hooked up and now it is running possibly in default mode.

I got it for dirt cheap because I am a dealer. I am not worried about it's current state. I am used to seeing vehicles that have been rode hard, this is not the case with this one. Normally if a vehicle has been beaten on the inside is rough and the outside has several scratches, paintwork etc. This car is perfect inside and out!

It may seem like it's in great condition, but you really have nothing to compare it to. Even if it means a long drive, you need to get your car checked out by a tuner. Search the forums and find the nearest tuner to you, in the long run this can save you a lot of money and you will be extremely impressed with the increased performance of your car. If your car is driving around only on 12PSI worth of boost, then you have no idea what you are in store for when you hit 21PSI-22PSI worth of boost

I found out that the guy had a boost controller and SAFC on it. The tuner that had worked on the car previously said that if I add those I will be good to go.
