skip the part where it says pre-lube new filter seal..
if you buy the filter from mitsubishi it will come with a plastic wrap on the top.. that is because they are prelubed seals.

BTW, this forum is really useful. Because of this forum, my car will live at least a year longer.
On topic: The crush washer on the drain bolt need not be changed everytime, just make sure it doesn't 'sweat'. That would be a signal that it needs to be changed. Just felt like adding this info. And, please put some oil on the O-ring, just to be on the safe side. The workshop manual says so. I even fill 1/2 of the filter before putting it on.

Yeah well My first oil change was a pain in the a$$, well there are no mitsubishi dealerships where I live that could prvide me with an oil filter for the EVO. So I had to go and search through auto part stores, only one had it Advanced Auto Parts, and no no it was not a normal oil filter it was a $20 K&N oil filter Bullshiit that hangs down about an inch and a half further than the stock one, and all they had in synthetic oil was the magical 15,000 mile extended life motor oil, let me tell you whoever would drive 15,000 miles before an oil change is on crack. So after spending $65 on an oil change, I parked my car in my storage unit and went off to Iraq, well at least I dont have to worry about driving over a speed bump and ripping my oil filter off. I will change the oil and filter again when I get back.
