Thinking about buying an Evo. Couple questions.

Well I have an 03 SRT-4 right now. I have a stage 3 turbo and every bolt on you can think of. I love my car but you can only do so much with a high horsepower fwd car. I can beat stock evo's and sti's no problem, but I've never raced a modded one. I'm thinking about buying an evo but I wanted to know what I would have to do to beat a stage 3 SRT-4 and about how much it would cost. Also does it really burn a hole in your pocket for maintaing an evo? I plan on keeping my srt cuz I love seeing the look on the dudes faces driving stangs and camaros when I beat them in a neon. But im really starting to like the evo the more I learn about it.

An 05 evo with cams, exhaust, mbc, intercooler, bigger injectors and pump, and a flash, afc, or AEM is enough to get the job done.

Look at my sig for a quick reference. Your question is too vague, because most of us have no idea what a Stg3 SRT-4 can do. Also, you didn't mention what type of racing venue: drag, autox, road racing, rally, rally-x? If you're talking about highway runs, then please leave and never come back.

A stage 3 srt can run a 12.5 1/4. I have stage 3 and just about every bolt on there is. Im putting down about 380 to the front wheels. And no I'm not talking about freeway runs. Just drag racing. What I want to know is when I get my evo about how much cash would I need to spend to be faster than the car I have now.

Depends on the driver. Warrtalon did better than that with minimal mods. Honestly get an Evo IX, intake ($399HKS RS), exhaust($800), mbc($85), exhaust cam( $265), custom tune ($450) and there you have a low 12 sec car with a mediocre driver. Total around $2200 with install for the cam. All the other stuff you can install yourself...

Oh, well if all you need to do is beat 12.5, then you can easily do that with either of the stage 1 packages in my sig. With an 03-05, you will spend around $1600 to have enough power to beat 12.5 as long as you know how to drive. With a IX, you only have to spend around $1300 to EASILY beat 12.5 even with so-so driving. In fact, I could probably beat a 12.5 on a IX with just a tune and MBC for $400.

I wouldn't suggest following 34Turbo's recommendation. Those aren't the right mods to get the job done. You don't need that terribly expensive intake and there's no proof yet that the exhaust cam by itself gives much power. Additionally, doing the cam job is another chunk of change that isn't necessary with the mods in my sig, which are much simpler jobs.

A new IX with stage 1 will beat or match most any stg3 SRT 4 time I have seen.

I'm confused...ok, is the Neon guy talking about getting an Evo faster than 12.5 in the 1/4, or making more than 380whp like his stage 3 SRT4 does??

Cause that's totally two different things there! Alot less mods and effort to get an Evo to best 12.5 in the 1/4.

No I just want to get it faster than my SRT4 in the 1/4. I dont want to go buy a brand new evo and its going to be slower than my neon.

One more question. Whats the difference between a ix and the rs? Im on a budget so I dont want to spend more money on something I dont really need. Thanks for the info guys, Im hoping to han an evo soon!

Well, you can beat 12.5s with only 290whp or so. A Neon with 380whp and 300 less lbs will be WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY faster than an Evo with 290whp, but I guess you just had no idea how to drive that Neon. 380whp with 2900lbs should be good for 120mph traps. 12.5 on that requires having no clue how to get a set of tires and launch properly, so I'm not certain you will be able to beat 12.5 in an Evo without a lot of mods and money spent.

You're not going to get away with asking such an incredibly basic question as "What is an RS/IX/MR?" without actually making an attempt to search first. Read the rules at the top of this (and every) forum, because this rule is clearly stated as a requirement before posting.
