Newby & stock BOV Question

First off I'd like to say I'm glad to be part of the Evolution. I just bought an '05 EVO VIII and am loving every second I own it. My old car is an '01 Dodge Neon R/T fully tricked out, so you can see why I'm loving every second of my EVO.

The first thing i did to my EVO once I got it was take the hose that goes off of the BOV and back in to the intack, so you can hear the BOV in action. But now since I've done that the car seems to stutter more and when stopped it idles really low. I plugged the hose that goes back into the intake, and hooked everything back up. Does anyone know why the car would be doing that, or has anyone else had that problem?

If you want to hear it switch to a cone style filter, but leave that damn hose on! Its there for a reason.

Just a tip, dont ever mention bov sound ever again on this forum. You have no idea how irate that topic makes most of us. The sound won't make it faster.

I like different BOV sounds. And I dont understand how everyone classifies BOV sounds with being ricey. If your boosted I really dont think your a ricer (usually).

Because "sound" has nothing to do with performance, and in the case of an Evo, "sound" from the BOV indicates a detriment to performance. Therefore, those who go for sound are like ricers in that they try to do things to their car for the sole purpose of aesthetics in spite of performance loss.

This guy is a perfect example. He came from his POS ricey Neon, manages to get an Evo, and the first thing he does is remove a hose from the intake that is vital to the performance of the car. That is the dumbest thing I think I've ever heard (today at least). I mean, really, wtf are people thinking? How is it that this guy even KNOWS to mess with that hose to make the BOV loud, yet he doesn't have a clue that it hurts the car??? Why in the world would that be a Neon owner's first "mod"? What would prompt him to do such a thing other than ricey influences like 2F2F?
