VIII & IX Owners:
from what i read the x will have electronic throttle and an aluminium block. no more 900 hp evo's. plus tiptronic shifting. also the turbo will be next to the fire wall. but leave it to vishnu, ams, buscher, dynoflash, and all the other tuners to extract as much hp as possible.
I personally wouldn't, but I know alot of people who would. They get all caught up on having the lastest and greatest. They have weak personal identity, and need material items to boost themselves up.

From past experience, the previous Evos had the 4g63 engine reworked, the X looks like it will have a complete different engine so that takes some time to start making upgrades and tunning.
I would say nothing will be set stone until at least 3 more years so no worries for me for now

I agree.
On a side note, My IX is a blast-great time and that will never change.
After the IX, the Evolution won't be like it use to be... I mean the shape of the car ( for me ) will loose the rally spirit. I love out dated car because of their shape ( RX-7, R34 ect... ).
I plan to keep my car and put more and more HP inside. 2.3L + 3076R = will keep up with most of the new car IMO

I have an '03 VIII and it feels outdated with EVERYONE even teenagers driving around in IX's...some that even traded in their '03's-'05s for them...
But as far as the original question is concerned, it all depends on the final product. The Concept X has promise, but so did the Eclipse concept with 400hp and E-Boost...but we got a watered-down FWD turd...if that happens w/ the Concept X I'm buying a IX GSR and keeping it until I die.

The look and model year of a car doesn't mean jack didly to me. I am completely about max performance. People who worry about that latest model are normally posers. I doubt I see these people at the track but if I do they are normally pointing me by. If the 10 is leaps and bound better than the 8/9 I will consider getting one but I find it difficult to believe the advances (if any) will be worth the price. If I can mod my 8 and smoke a 10 for less money that is just what I'll do.
I like the way the ten looks in concept but I dont like the idea that its going to share a platform with Dodge. I also hate the idea of buying a completely new car the first year it comes out. Newer doesn't = better.
If you want to keep up with the Jones's you are going to have to lose a ton of money doing it. The rich man didn't get rich by spending all his money! You may even have to take a step back in performance.
Consider my current setup. My 2003 is paid for and fairly highly modded. It would cost me $10k to upgrade to a nine. For less than $10k I could build a 2.3 stroker with all the supporting goodies as well as rework the suspension and such. I'd be nuts to upgrade just to get 300RPM sooner spool and a new front bumper.

I wouldnt feel outdated until the X proves its strength ( with it new motor) to hold up like the 4g63 did. I love the look of the VIIIs over the IXs and i bought a VIII because of it. I will only upgrade to a X when the X makes me feel confident.. if you had a 6 I bet you would still love your EVO
i won't feel outdated. if i had a galant vr4 now that ran perfectly and i could depend on from day to day, i'd be perfectly happy doing it. now, by the time it comes out i may be looking for a new car and may consider the 10, but it wouldn't be because my car was outdated, it'd be because i wanted a new car

I think that *any* of the existing models will still be highly sought after by those that know about Evos. The next one is more REVolutionary than Evolutionary, and there are bound to be a lot of people that criticize Mitsu's direction-change, regardless of how good it is (remember the furor when Porsche unveiled the 996?).
And if they're serious about "Upscaling" it for the Xth gen, then it'll be a different car altogether. Possibly a much more expensive one (like the R34 -> R35 Skyline transition).
