Intake?

This may have been covered but i cant find this exact question. I'm a newbie sorry .

I know if you put an intake on it screws stuff up, and you need a tune. If you do a drop in filter things are fine from what i have heard correct? My question is if i put on a filter and intake style filter (K&N that i had on my wrx) will this mess stuff up? I would have to pull the stock box off but would leave the piping and MAF sensor. any suggestions good/bad idea? Need a tune right away? Will I loose horsepower???

Thanks guys
