looking into evos...
hi, im new to evos, but my buddies got a really built 2nd gen eclipse ive worked on and i have a turbod car myself...but im wondering what i should look for in a used evo? im about to turn 20 and it sabout time i get a relatively new and reliable car that i can own for atleast 5 years...and still be able to hav efun with...any input is greatly appreciated
well im looking into buying within the next year. So at the point i should be looking at being able to spend between 18-21ish on the car itself. Then go from there...if i can still afford atleast a 400 a month payment.
well a new evo the RS model which is a striped down model no radio etc is about 25-27k.
I think you would be better of getting a used one, especially if you wanna go fast.
But if you want a new car/ want it to last 5 years a new car would/could be better but I could tell you too keep saving and then decide, evos are great cars.

Take the car for a test drive, I bought my evo with 2k miles on it, and now it has about 20k on it. Some things that you can look for are, how the clutch feels, my is just now starting to go, but I have launched my car about 50+ times or so, also check tred wear on tires, my advans lasted about 1 summer, and they are not cheap to replace. If you can, check the spark plugs, in the cold weather my car was having some detonation issues, it was easy to see this because one of the spark plugs that I pulled had chared oil on it. Ask to owner for service records, suchs as any basic maintance, or repairs. And also pull a car fax report on it, this could save you from any unnecessary suprises. And finally ask the owner if they would let you take it to a Mitsu dealer to have it inspeced. Evo's are great cars, and any member on this board should be able to tell you that they can take a beating. Make sure you look around for a good deal, be patient. I found my 03' Evo for 24,500 with only 1900mi on it. Call around to dealers in your local area, because cars like this don't make it to the paper they are usually scarfed up in a day or to by people like me.
