I was so excited to drive to GA to look at a 04 for a great price. Then CARFAX crached in WV. I decided for 24K I will pass and keep looking. The last thing I want is a car that is crashed worse than I thought.

i would, and i did. bought it crashed from the insurance company. my brother did the same thing with his wrx 1.5 years ago.
the way they repair frame damage these days is SOOOOO much more adavanced than it used to be.

for my evo, the entire right side rail (including the strut tower) and radiator support was replaced. the parts where bought from the dealer, and welded on using the exact factory weld spots. you will NEVER tell that the rail has been replaced, even if u take off the fender and dash. but i did spend a lot more money than usual getting it done right, while saving $9k from the purchase of a used evo 8

DONT DO IT!! even if the frame damage has been repaired, it wont be as stiff as before(correct me if im wrong)
Evo already has crappy crash rating, what would a SOFTER one do if you get T-Boned? just get a used one

Post reply to dc4ever83

dc4ever83 vbmenu_register("postmenu_2942877", true); -im sorry but thats a false statement-depending on how the frame damage is fixed would answer the problem-i helped my dad rebuild an sti while workin at his shop and we cut a piece of the rail off and replaced it-if u do it that way it will be just like stock but if u bend back rails and frame parts that were already bent then yea it wont run right-but if parts are completely replaced then it will be good as new

i bought my evo new but thats besides the point, i have bought and repaired many wrecked/totalled cars and fixed them in the past, i have bought fixed cars also, if the work is done right then there is nothing to worry about, but its always up to the buyer in the long run

Find a peice of sheet metal, bend it back and forth a few times. Do you think it is still as strong as it origionally was? The obvious answer is no.

Why buy a recked car and jepordise your safety. Besids that, cars that have been in accidents never drive the same afterwards, which is problaby a good reason why the person that wrecked the car is selling it.

I was looking at a S4 a while back. I was told that it was in a minor wreck and the dammage was just a dented bumper that was repainted. I did some digging using my sherlock holmes skills a vin number and some phone calls and found out that the guy did $18,000 in repairs to it. These are repairs that wouldn't show up with carfax or an insurance history. The person that I got the info from said "I cant tell you the details of the repairs, but I will suggest that you do not but this car", Im glad I didnt.

your right, buying it wrecked and bending it back is not always good.

but buying it wrecked, and having the bent parts replaced using the same factory weld spots is good.
