Would you buy a wrecked car?

Or rather a car that has been wrecked and repaired? I found a car that im interested in but the carfax shows a wreck in december of 05 in virginia. It doesnt give exact details of the accident but it still has me thinking. Id hate to pass on the car for a parking lot accident, but then again i dont want something that has had frame work either

Talk to the owner, find out what the damage was, who repaired it, and then look at it real hard then drive it. If it all seems ok, and your comfortable with a rebuilt car then buy it. I would do it if evrything seemed ok on the test drive.

Depends??? Is it a salvaged title ? How much? What is it? What do you plan on using it for? Alot of equations in this one that all need to be considered.

Due to past experience, no I would not. There is a reason people sell cars once they've crashed them.

and that reason is because the feeling you get from the car from the factory is different than then one you get after its been rebuilt.

They only have to disclose damage if it is above a certain percentage of the cars value. Since it is on the record there is a good chance it was an appreciable amount of damage. That means I wouldn't buy it.

i would never buy a wrecked car simply because if the frame is/was damaged, then it might be alot worse when u get into an accident. to me its just safety issues. spend a few extra thousands and buy a new/used car.

does carfax say it had frame damage reported? that's usually the big key that would turn me off.

I'm noodling a '95 Porsche 993 that's been hit hard and repaired. 60K miles, looks incredible, some minor issues, drives pretty good.

No resale value but for the 19K he's asking, I think it might be fun.

I was eyeballing a 2000 BMW M-Coupe before i traded my OZ for an Evo. It had a NY Salvage title because it was hit hard in the right front and then rebuilt. I decided against it. It was a beautiful car but i would always worry about problems that could show themselves at any time.

think of it this way - a new car has a warranty, a salvage title doesnt - if you blow the clutch, enging, tranny, diff's (all are very very expensive), then its all out of pocket for you. it can be a pain sometimes.

i own a salvage title, and i've had nothing but good things to say other than i thrash on my own car and it tends to get messed up... which i have to pay for out of my own pocket when i break something...

parting it out would be a good idea if you bought a salvage car - sometimes you can get a salvaged evo/sti and get more than you paid just by selling out the parts!

i have purchased wrecked cars before w/o any problems what so ever.... they can be worth depending on the accident and the rebuild..... i wouldn't purchase a frame wrecked car tho....
