06 Evo IX or 06 Evo IX MR

I am new to the website and am about to get a evo IX in month. I wanted some info on is it better to get the 5 speed evo or the 6-speed MR i wasn't sure because i hread alot of different info on the 5 speed is better for highway racing and the gears might be longer. i also hread that the MR tranys is stronger but i dont know..

What are you going to be using the car for, mostly? Both are great cars, it depends on your goals.

if your gonna drag i,d go with the 5 spd., i,m pretty sure the gearing is lower, but then again look at the times people are running with 6spds. I,m sure warr will chime in and let you know what a good driver with a few great mods can run with a 6spd.

I'm just picking at you, i thought it was clever so i had to say it. If you're looking to drag then you probably ought to go for the 5 speed. I'm pretty sure it is a little better in the quarter

i've always had the same answer when i've posted on this subject,Which was that i wish i had bought a standard IX or even an RS. The reasons were mostly $ and how much I lost paying 35K on a car I could have bought at South Coast.
i had to be regulated on by other members for all the MR bashing I was doing, to realize that if you get the MR and don't F 'up the charactoristics of the suspension you will have no regrets.

BTW, when people say to get the 5spd for drag racing reasons, they are referring to the 03-05 Evo VIIIs, not the 06 IX, because the 5spd in the IX has shortened gear ratios that make it run out of gear in 4th just like the 6spd.

However, unless you plan on running 11s with over 115mph traps, then the IX MR is still the best choice in terms of racing potential. After 114-115mph, then the VIII 5spd is needed to be effective.

thanks. i feel like a broken record everytime this topic is covered. ppl mistaken the VIII's with the IX's too often
