Just got an IX MR need help!

I just got a new IX MR and wanted to start modding. I have no experience when it comes to turbo powered cars. Until now I have focused primarily on 4X4's and race bikes. I have a couple of people telling be I need some things right away. I am not sure if this is true or not but I am sure you guys could tell me. Turbo timer, BOV and a intake. Could you guys give me some suggestion on what these parts would cost if needed and what brands are the best. Also any suggestion regarding mods that I should do first would be great! Also I usually like to do my own work but because I am on new ground do you guys know of a good shop in the Houston TX area?

Thank you!

Well first off, you do not NEED any of those things that "a couple people" have been telling you.

Instead of a turbo timer, you could just let your car sit running for a little bit after your done driving. From what I've heard, don't get a BOV or intake off the bat, instead start with a CBE or TBE.

But, do whatever you want to do to your car - just don't do what "a couple people" are telling you, as "a couple people" probably have no idea what they're talking about.

cbe = cat back exhaust

tbe = turbo back exhaust

if you didnt know or didnt want to ask.

You also have to think about warrenty issues,,,,, doing pretty much anything to your evo can and most likely will void it.

Listen to the guys here, well... most of them, you don't need a turbo timer, you don't need an intake and it's shown that an intake doesn't net you much. Go with a turbo back first off.

this stuff has been answered tons of times already. so golden rule, before you post, research. you don't really need anything for the evo, some people like it fine stock. it's a great car, the stock intake box is better than most on the market. but if you want performance and little cost, simple upgrade path is Turbo Back Exhaust or tbe is what most people say on the forums (which is downpipe, high flow cat or test pipe, and then the catback portion with the muffler) and a flash does wonders for the performance without spending big bucks.

TBE + Flash = happy in the pants.

There are a few packages you can go with to achieve whatever level of power you'd like. Search for the Warrtalon/Buschur and Vishnu package(s).

As mentioned, you need to also consider your warranty. Something as simple as a Turbo Timer CAN 'void' your warranty (in reality, they can't void it entirely. but they can deny a claim over just about anything). If the warranty isn't a big deal, then have some fun.

With the Warrtalon/Buschur package, you're looking at about $1,300 for the IX to have about 330whp on a dynojet using 93 octane. Vishnu is a bit different.

Either way, congrats you lucky jerk and enjoy her.

TurboBack Exhaust.

Do some research about this and i guarantee you that you will bump into some threads with all the mods you should take. you'll know what to do next...

As for the TBE=Turboback, Helix, Megan good low price, good performance & if money is nothing to yah GReddy Ti...

1st thing is know what you want and check your budget, it would be easier to search for answers if you know that.

Thanks for the info! So it looks like a TBE and reflash is the way to go! What brand of exhaust do you guys suggest? I saw the info posted for the Warrtalon package looks good how hard is the install and what is needed to reflash the ECU?

silvrevo thanks for the break down I had no clue!

Thanks for all the help!

Links for more information:

Vishnu - http://www.vishnutuning.com/evo.htm

Buschur/Warrtalon - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...08&postcount=1

For any specific questions about the products, I'd speak with them directly. For the flash, you'll need to pull it from your car and send it in (while also specifying/confirming with octane level of gas you will be running). That might be a problem with downtime, unless you get ahold of another ECU ($$$).

in the same boat but with a lil info.

I am somewhat new but only to the EVO not cars. I have done hours and hours of endless research and Silver is right. The TBE and a flash with a drop-in filter is all you will need to get started. Or if you want to just get power quick I am getting the Stage 1 & 2 from Buschur Racing...they are the other half of warrtalons package. Vishnu has great packages just a little pricier than Buschur. Figure out where your $$$ is and what you want out of it and unless they own or have owned an EVO their advice should be taken with gallons of salt....think of it like this...would you let the guy that has a 96 neon rebuild your 4x4...

Yes, having a turbo car before I can agree w/ not doing an intake or a BOV...its honestly pointless for you do those mods.

Out of curiosity what kind of gains are people seeing on a TBE and Reflash?

Cheers

Take a look at those links I posted up. Those are, essentially, TBE + Flash (or "stage 1", depending on the company). Vishnu's packages range from 300-500+hp. But if you check out Buchur's in particular, you're getting a TBE, MBC and Flash. Take out the MBC and you're probably at 300whp or so. That's effing insane for SO little money and for the parts. It truly boggles the mind.

If you're concerned about warranty issues, you might want to the investigate WORKS offerings.

http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...products_id=65

WORKS also offers a Factory-Matched warranty program.

There are less expensive options, but WORKS philosophy seems to be driven by getting the most out of the car with the highest margin of safety and reliability.

I can attest that each time I've called them, they have been friendly and very customer oriented, regardless of how noobish my questions have been.

There's plenty of sound clips on here and also www.norcalevo.net to check out for exhausts. Just search around.

It took me forever to decide on which one to go with. Between sound, price, performance, quality and looks. With so many factors, I would say to take your time!

Well the fiorst thing ur gonna wat to do is run your break in period, then get most of the main fluids flushed and refilled like oil, tranny etc. first fluid swap is critical as to how well your machine will run, as it is brad new there will be small metal shavings and spurs.
