For the IX you do revised gear ratios.

As far as I know no one has broken a six speed with just raw power. There is one member that broke his six speed but he says it was not due to the power or abuse.

No, you don't shift into 5th with the IX unless you are making a ton of power in the case where you might be trapping over 114mph.

also there definately hasnt been any more failures to the MR tranny than the 5 speed.

the MR suspension is much more suited to Daily Driving.

I wanted brake ducts, aero kit, and HIDs, so it only made sense for me to go with the MR, but everyone is different.
Don't all evo's have brake ducts? I have HID's and isn't the aero kit just the vortex generator?

Getting 114 MPH traps on a EVO especially a IX is not require a ton of power. The new ratios for the IX 5 speeds difference is not much. I think these ratios are correct.
Gear Ratio 1st [GSR/RS]: 2.909/2.785
Gear Ratio 2nd [GSR/RS]: 1.944/1.950
Gear Ratio 3rd [GSR/RS]: 1.434/1.444
Gear Ratio 4th [GSR/RS]: 1.100/1.096
Gear Ratio 5th [GSR/RS]: 0.868/0.825
Gear Ratio 6th [GSR/RS]: 0.693/NA
Gear Ratio Rev [GSR/RS]: 3.416/3.416
Gear Ratio Final [GSR/RS]: 4.583/4.583

Well I'm talking about for my situation I want to make alot of power with my car and I would have the fear of breaking the smaller gears with alot of horsepower.
I think most or all of the 600-900hp evo are 5 speed so it made me choose the gsr over the MR.

There aren't alot of people out there making alot of power on the MR's. Most 600-900 hp evo's are GSR's I think. I haven't seen a high horsepower MR yet. I think alot of shops are using GSR's instead of MR to build fast cars.

That is true but you have to remember the MR came out in 05 by then there is already high HP modded Evos already. Plus, why pay more for car to drag especially in 05 when the GSR had a better gear ratio for drag racing.

me personally, i didn't have a choice in 03, so i got the one with a sunroof.
ppl say it doesn't handle as well as the evo's w/o it. but that bull. unless your going to go a make your car strickly racing the sunroof does hurt at all.

now if i did have the shoice between the two it would have been hard for me, but i think i would go for the gsr with ssl, b/c of the goodies it comes with

Get the GSR. If the only reason you really want the MR other than to have an MR and HIDs, 6 speed, etc. I'd just get a GSR with SSL, especially for daily driving. That way you can have the best of both worlds and save a little money for suspension of your choice if you dont like the ride quality of the GSR. IMO, if you choose the GSR over the MR even if there are some qualities you like more in the MR, with the money you save, you can make the GSR fit your needs better by buying individual parts rather than just buying an MR, which there might be some qualities you dont like. (This probally did'nt really make much sense... it's early in the morning. lol.)

Your only car/daily driver?

MR- HIDs without the got damn sunroof... Nicer suspension if you are NOT going to use coilovers... smooth tranny for around town.

Duel purpose frequent driver/track car?

GSR- 5 spd tranny... your going to dump the OE coilovers anyway... still nice enough to drive around town.

Dedicated track star/drag car?

RS- 5 spd... stripped already... You are going to replace everything... enough said.

if i had all the money in the world, i'd get an MR. since most people don't, and im one of them, i say what you have to pay for the MR isn't worth it. it's nice and everything, don't get me wrong, but the extra few thousand on stuff that eventually i'll change anyways (for the most part) is not worth it. i also wanted leather, sunroof and HIDs, so i went with the SSL package GSR which isn't available on the MR

There are lot of people modding evo IX with gt35r's and other big turbos and they are all GSR's. I haven't seen a big turbo upgrade in an MR yet. There is alot of potential in the IX because of the MIVEC motor and companies are developing EMS for them right now to make more power than the stock MAF can handle. But yes it's my point in why I chose the GSR in MR.. I bought my car to be drag race oriented so I chose the GSR.

I faced this dilemma when i got my car and went with the IX SSL. Why? I get all the performance of the MR but nice leather interior, same HID's, etc. I also am planning on getting new suspension and wheels so the extra money for the MR just wasn't worth it since most of that cost is suspension and wheels IMO.

And I can do without a 6 speed since it just shorter gears. My gears are already short as hell.

I think the only thing the MR has that I want are the factory HIDs. However, I don't think I want leather seats, I hardly ever use sunroofs, and I can just upgrade the sound myself for a LOT cheaper. I suppose that means aftermarket HIDs.

I know this topic has come up many times before...but it's always so hard when it comes down to PERSONAL preference and not performance or money. I've yet to sit in a GSR w/ SSL to see what the leather feels like. I've seen plenty of pictures, but that obviously doesn't do it justice. Considering the cost of the SSL package and the fact that I only really want ONE item out of it, I doubt I'll be going that route.

In a lot of ways, I think that also helps me to realize that I don't really want nor need the MR. I respect the better suspension for daily driving, and other features...but as it's been said over and over, with the money I'll save, I'll be able to adjust all that on my GSR to better fit me.

Thanks everyone for helping me out. I'll let you all know how it goes.
