Hey New Guy Here <deciding on what to get>

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to this forum, but I've been on is300.net and clubleuxs. I'm planing on selling my 03' IS300 for either a EVO 8 or a 350z. People have been telling me its going to be a downgrade and what not, but I think its a upgrade in performance. First off the 350z is very affordable I could either get a fully loaded or a brand new 350z. It has after all the 300whp that I'm looking for, but its a 2 seater. The reason I looked into the EVO is because it's still a 4 door and it has stock turbo so I dont have to deal with smog since I'm in cali. I was planing on boosting the IS, but it is goign to be too pricey est about 10k just for a "stable" boosted IS.

Now the question is EVO or 350z. I test drove both. The evo thumbs up, but how is the insurance on the evo?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the insurance, but the 350 does not have 300whp. And when it comes to performance the 350 just doesnt compare.

Yeah, nowhere near 300whp, and nowhere near as fast as a new Evo IX. Maybe it can keep up with an Evo VIII on the top end, but in terms of performance, the 350z is not on the same level as any Evo. Coming from an IS300, which I also did, both the 350z and Evo would feel great, but they still aren't comparable. It comes down to what you want. If you want to just look nice and have a decent amount of performance, then do the 350z, but it won't be much different than having an IS300 (looks great and has a little performance). Going to an Evo is a big step, though, because you're sacrificing all the creature comforts and going for all-out performance.

You also can mod the Evo very easily and make GOBS of power, especially the Evo IX. With less than $1300 spent, you can get an Evo IX up to 330-340whp. It would take probably more than $5000 to get a 350z there, and it would have questionable reliability due to the non-forged internals, since it would have to be boosted.

I love it, nobody on this forum will honestly pick the 350z. Realise who you are asking

I would pick the 350z if the parameters he gave for his decision warranted choosing the 350z. However, he gave no preferences, so my default choice is the Evo for the reasons stated above.

Sorry guys. Well I'm looking for a Daily Driver of course. The 350z is pretty tight fit would just seat me and whoever in my passenger side. Also I've been seraching, but I've heard taht the EVO insurance is sky rocket and you have to change the tires about every 20k. Also since its boosted will the matinace cost more?

I still would rather have an Evo stock vs a 350z stock, I just think the 350z is a wannabe sports car. Has nothing to do with modding for me, in my eyes Evo stock > 350z stock.

I'm new and I also looked at both the 350Z and Evo. I lurked on this site for about 3 months and know several people with 350Z's in my neighborhood. The potential for the Evo in mods for performance sold me. Insurance depends on your driving record. I have a 2002 Eclipse Gt loaded, Evo IX MR, and 1994 Chevy Blazer for 217$ a month. Will be 155$ when I sell the Eclipse. I personally got tired of the lack of room in my Eclipse and wanted a bigger car. Good luck on your decision.

When I pick the Evo I read up on the car and THEN I decide on the car based on maintenance, insurance and most of all the performance end. I had a Infiniti but it was so refined and leathered up that you could not tell the difference in the cockpit between 65 and 100 mph.( Quiet, no wind noise, no tire noise, plush seats and suspension) I want the road feedback and the Evo gives that to me. I wanted stick shift, turbo, racing pedigree. The list goes on. But it really comes down to which car is going to give you what you want. Mine is a daily commuter car too.

insurance is not cheap, not sure how it compares to a 350 though but it'll probably be more than your IS. the stock tires and brakes wear quickly but if you're doing more daily driving than track driving they're overkill. you can get longer wearing tires and brakes that will perform comparably in every way except at the limits for daily driving and if you want autox/track equipment just buy the extra, more expensive, quicker wearing stuff. the only real extra maintenance is diff fluids and the fact that you should use synthetic oil and the manufacturer fluids, but the difference really doesn't amount to much money over the course of the year

if you're a tall guy then forget the z and pick the g
if you're into performance then forget the z and g and pick the e (lol Evo)
at least you have to decide between two cars, I had to choose from a vette, z, g, evo, supra, m3. After test driving and searching the evo was the best fit. I like my car's new so there goes the vette and the supra and the m3 (cant afford 50-80 grand cars)

then did a test drive with the g, z and evo.
G was more difficult to learn then the evo. I love how we have to press the shifter down in order to reverse, safety feature i guess.

So g is more luxury and more spacious, more expensive too. the z is cool but it's too cramped inside. I like how the z feels trust me, i'm coming from a honda accord so trust me, any car is powerful. when i test drove the evo.......I was in heaven, the power is unbelivable. I have test driven so many cars, vettes, supra', hemi chargers, srt8's but something about the evo is so nice!!

i cant explain, i say test drive both the z and the evo. Do more research, go to my350z.com and learn more about the z. I did for over 2 months. I belong to so many forums it's not even funny. The z does almost the same mileage as the evo so as for daily driver i say get the evo, 4 doors. yeah the evo is more maintainence but come on, this aint no honda.

Go to my350z.com and check what they say, even they recommended i get the evo from all the things i was expecting from a car, you might also wanan look at the STi but honestly the new models are just fugly!!

Oh and the z has about 210-220whp and 1/4 is around 14.5-14.8 if you are a hell of a driver. if you get an auto then you need to buy more things to get the same power as the sticks and if you get a stick then good luck sticking all that power on the ground (people who twin turbo it still have a hard time launching it right)

oh p.s. twin turbos cost 10 grand +labor so
25 for the cheapest z + 10 grand for twins + labor and it still is as fast as a evo stock, lol

hint hint

And from other forums I can pull up many threads on how the 350Z is one of the most overrated cars.

I think all cars are nice, good and great.
it's just what do you want out of that car?

I'm not being biased cuz I dont own a Evo but I will say Evo is dam good because it has what I want AND need. Z is a dam good car but it doesnt have what I want and need.

if price is a factor then you can get some good used 350hp vette's for cheaper then new Evo's.

hint hint again.
