Evo 9 help

My nine just got delivered 2 days ago and i have some initial concerns im hoping will clear up after the break in period. I did a search but coudnt come up with much. To get to the problem....the breaks are horrible. They feel like they are barley working. I have to mash them as hard as they go to get them to grab. The other thing is the gear box feels very notchy and clunky. Are these things normal and do they smooth out after break in? My EVO currently only has 120 miles on it ( i got it with 3 miles). Anybody chime in and help me out. Im coming from a STI and i never had any kinda issues like this so that is why im worried. Thanks for your help!!

Well, the brakes and tranny have to break-in just like the engine. You should not be doing any hard braking whatsoever so that everything can bed in nicely. The tranny will loosen up as everything starts working together.

However, if the brakes really don't work worth a damn, you should tell the dealership immediately to make sure nothing is wrong. I haven't heard someone complain like that before on a brand new Evo, so you may have an actual problem.

My brakes took 400 to 500 miles before they grabbed to my satisfaction. When the car was brand new they felt like they were barely grabbing, but now they are great.

Right from the get go the Evos brakes should be fantastic. Pedal feel is unchanged in over 10k on my IX MR.

Shifting should be quite smooth and solid when new. Mine is a wee bit notchier now vs. new with back to back tests on a IX MR with 2k vs. my own.

Would suggest you be more accurate in your description. Barely working means dangerous driving condition in my book so I am assuming your over exagerating perhaps?

Im not driving hard or breaking real hard. Im taking it easy and boosting it often to 5k rpm but never over. That is what im supposed to be doing as far as ive read?? But when im coming to a light or someone breaks hard in front of me and ive got to get on them there just seems like there is nothing there. Warr- should i call the dealer and schedule an appointment? Or give it a couple hundred miles to break in?

don't panic

For the brakes it is just normal. But don't put too much force on them for the first 400-500 km otherwise the pads will make to much noise.

For the transmission mine didn't get much better after break-in. My second gear is still notchy at low revs. I don't like that I have to take care each time I shift. Maybe my clutch needs replacing (only after 9000 km ??).
