BMW M3 vs. Evo IX MR
Yes, with SMG you shift with your foot to the floor if you want to. Mid corner, keep the throttle wherever you want, shift, the ECU matches the revs perfectly with no unbalancing of the car.

Wow I dont know who these people are thinking they have killed M3's on the highway in their stock evo.
Maybe the evo9 is just COMPLETELY different from my evo8, but I will tell you there is NO WAY that I could kill a stock/stock m3.

It looks like they have to spend close to $10,000.00 or so on top of the price of a new M3 just to run 12 something at 116 MPH....
Just read the page, go to the bottom and read up on the stage 2 package they have for the E46 m3
Performance Specs Level II
Power: 499 BHP @ 7500 rpm
Torque: 388 ft/lbs @ 5500 rpm
0 - 60 mph: 4.2 sec
1/4 mile: 12.4 @ 116 mph
Boost Level: 7.5psi
These figures are sad, as an EVO on the stock turbo can do better for way less money
i've driven my friend's e46 6spd m3 with exhaust and rims.
the car is pretty fast, though it doesn't "feel" very fast due to very smooth power delivery. the engine's extremely rev happy (gotta love those ITB's). the car can easily chirp 2nd gear even with 255's on the back. it is heavy and anybody can feel the weight in the corners. the steering is quite precise once off center. very stable car at high speeds. the car is as comfortable (ride quality and noise) as my lexus rx330. while the engine after 6k rpm just screams to redline - it's awesome.
that said, the car is just way too soft for me. like aforementioned, the Evo's a much better driver's car in terms of communications btwn the vehicle and driver. also if u're into performance more than luxury then the Evo's hands down the winner.
i dunno, before i drove the m3 i was very excited, because of all the hype about it. but after the drive, i was kind of disappointed. whereas the first time i drove the Evo, it was everything the hype was and more...the handling and braking are amazing. and thanks to the quick steering on the Evo the car is very nimble (felt more like the s2k)
the m3 felt more like a 6spd g35 coupe with a much better motor imo. the handling felt almost identical.
the m3 engine is ****ing amazing though, i really loved it coming from high-revving honda motors. check out e46fanatics.com. but watch out for fanboi's there - there are tons of them. try to filter out the bullsh*t and get the info u want. one thing u will learn for sure there is that modding an M3 costs an arm and a leg.
good luck mate. remember also that if u get the IX mr, it's the new car with long warranty. just make sure u get the car from a recommended dealership (search around here for "black listed mitsu dealer" and a thread on good dealerships)

personally I have been on the highway with a 2006 M3 w/ intake, exhaust and chip. I have dynoflash, TBE, intake and 20spi. He didn't stand a chance. He now has headers and a new chip and kills me.

I have beaten 04 M3 at the drag...I am completely B0NE STOCk.
I say get the dodge caliber. I am trying to get rid of the evo. I want a faster car and that caliber looks vicious.
JUST KIDDING. Both are nice vehicles (back to M3 vs EVO). Personally I planning on modding so I went with the EVO. Driven a few M3 (friends and uncle's). Ride quality was good in the bimmer when cruising, but wth the SSL package, I was very happy. The seats held me tight during mountain runs and looks very nice as compared to the cloth Recaros. But then again it all depends on what you are looking for. I am not going to restate what everyone else has been telling you. Just sit down and think of why you want each vehicle and plans after you buy one.
I get more looks in the evo than in M3. Then again, a lot from cops and ricers.
