Buying a used evo... please help!!
Ok so the car is a 2004 with 35,000 miles. Here is what worries me, the CEL is thrown and its all stock under the hood except for an intake. He says that he had it checked out and its a bad solenoid from a boost controller that they used to run. Used to also have full coilovers and downpipe/exhaust. (Maybe a bunch of other stuff hes not telling me about) He also hooked up a boost gauge now so I can see that it's pumping full boost, (It felt a little weak on the test drive, but I haven't driven it with the gauge yet). Also this car used to be tracked a lot. I want to get it checked out by a mechanic, but wanted to check to see what you guys think. Could this be a potential problem car or what?

Stay away, get a stock one and work on it yourself, atleast you'll know what goes wrong and what caused it to!
Plus getting an evo with less potential back to its full potential is hard and not worth the time when you can get a healthy one!
Good luck!

There are some people that would tell you to get and some people that would tell you stay away from it. It is no big secret that i am a advocate against buying a used high performance vehicle. To takeit to a mechanic to get it checked out is cool and all but unless they are familiar with the Evo and all the things that can go wrong with it then they will give you false hope on a potential monster. I deffinitly wouldn't buy it specifically because it was tracked alot. To track a car is to put it through a wringer and you will not want to suffer from the after math of a car that was rode hard. Let this deal pass man....it ain't the one for you.
35K miles could be ALOT of beating.
People generally dont go through the time and effort to mod a car to turn around and put it back to stock to sell it...unless of course something happend...and usuaslly it's to the car.
More than likely this guy is hoping someone will come along and buy his problems (aka the car) and he'll start over fresh.
Buying a previously modded car especially with 35K miles sounds like BAD news to me.

he just bought another evo and he wants to get rid of this one because he doesn't have "time" for the other one anymore. He's selling it for 22,000... It's one of those things that you already know the answer, but you don't really want to hear it. At what price do you think that I should consider buying it?
