Oh BS, HP is everything in drag racing. Torque doesn't do a damn thing when you're only at high rpm all the way down the track.

A 300whp/700wtq Turbo Diesel isn't going to be nearly as fast as a 700whp/300wtq Civic even if you take weight out of the equation. It requires high rpm high horsepower to be fast on the drag strip...not just torque. You don't see Civics trying to get 400wtq - that's useful for autocrossing and road racing, not drag racing.
