About to buy a new IX...good price?
Hello all,
New to the forums, and I'd like to ask a quick question. Been to the dealer a couple of times and have talked extensively with sales reps about buying new. My girlfriend's father is vice president of the major bank that deals directly with this Mitsu dealership...so we got taken care of when we went in to talk...or did we?
He offered me 34,000 out the door (State taxes, liscense fees, delivery costs, etc.) for a brand new IX GSR, no SSL package but with an aftermarket sunroof included in the deal that they will professionally install. He said the value of the sunroof and installation costs would be around 1,000. So I got to thinking after I walked out the door as to whether or not I got a good deal on this car. Keep in mind I haven't yet signed on the dotted line, but did put down a refundable down payment to hold the car for when I'm ready to buy.
My question to those of you EDUCATED guys out there; am I getting had at this price? Should I try to talk him down even further? Please give me some insight before I return to the dealer!

That's a very poor price for a non-SSL. They cost 27,999 including destination charge at South Coast, or at least they did through June. You're looking at 31-32k before TTL with that OTD price - awful. Hell, MRs cost less than that at South Coast.
It makes no sense to get a non-ssl then try to install an aftermarket sunroof. That would probably end up biting you in the butt later anyway - such things are usually not a good idea especially when the SSL version doesn't even cost 34k.
And like I always have to say, unfortunately, any amount of searching would have answered this question for you instead of relying on spoonfeeding. Had you searched BEFORE going to the dealership, you would have been properly armed.

Um, 30.5k is not a ballpark for an MR, because they were 32,999 at South Coast, which is the lowest in the country. Getting it for 4200 under _INVOICE_ is not possible without some sort of employee discount or something of that nature.
Depends... There are not that many new 9's to be had, and they are getting fewer by the day. My dealer told me he would give anyone a deal...his deal... "I'll sell you one!"
I ordered mine at the end of April, as Mitsu was preparing for another run. But there are not too many coming in, especially in the Midwest. Bay City, Showcase has a Black MR SE on order, but it is the last Evo they will be getting until 2008.
Makes sense. Unless your willing to buy out of state, and pay to have it shipped, it sounds about right. It is exactly what I paid, but I would not want a dealer installed sunroof!!! Can you say drip...drip...drip, all over that interior my friend.
If you really want the sunroof, and your willing to take the risk... cool! I would not. Just my opinion. Good luck with your purchase!

tell them to go pack sand. At the end of 03 I got out the door for 26000 insane right. I still couldn't believe the sticker price was 42000 in washington st. 6 months earlier. Make the dealerships fight each other. Tell them what you are getting it for and tell them to beat it. After it goes back and forth a few times you will have a good price YOU just can't back down. Never go to a dealership that won't commit to a price. As soon as you got them commited they are the suckers!!!

Without knowing the tax rate and state fees it's hard to say whether it's a horrible deal. It's definitely not the best deal though. If you're willing to go out of state then call South Coast Mitsu like others have mentioned. If not it sounds like they are selling you the car at around $500-$1000 off sticker. Again not the best deal but not horrible either. As a suggestion if you really want a sunroof you might as well get the SSL package as you'll get HID's and a few other goodies too. If you're not concerned about a sunroof tell em "no thanks" and ask for another $1000 off the price.
Regardless, that's not anywhere near the ballpark. You're saying at one time they were offering MRs for 2500 less than they are now, but that is by no means the norm or even close to the norm.
At no point has SouthCoast even offered the GSR w/SSL for as low as 30.5k in any of their promotions listed here at EvoM. The lowest on an SSL has bee 30,999, and the lowest MR price was 31,999. In another thread, you said you paid $31,999, so not sure how you also paid 30.5k, but that would have to be the lowest price ever for a normal customer.

Def pass on the deal. As said before, the sunroof will prolly leak down the road. Even if not, its not worth the money. Im not even ready to buy and can find 06 gsr for right around 31k otd. Thats including ttl, and eveyrthing else.
