New Evo Owner

Hey Guys,

I am the lucky new owner of a '06 Wicked White Evo MR. I was a former MazdaSpeed Protege owner, and to tell you the truth i learned alot about cars and about that car from the forum on that car. I would like to do the same for this car as well, but i only want to do a few mods. So if there is anything i should know, or anything you guys would do first just let me know with a PM. Right now, i am currently looking for a new exhaust system. I am a little scared to do a full turbo back if it will void my warranty, i love the car and would love to mod the hell out of it but right now i need some thing dependable. So if there are any good cat backs that anyone knows about let me know I will take all opinons. Thanks in advance guys!

-Brian

Thanks, and to be honest, this car is so beautiful i dont know if i want to do anything to it. The only reason i would do exhaust is to hear the car a little bit, and get some extra performance out of it. I am trying to find a road course around my area, i think VIR in virginia is the closest place that has a road course. I just think it would be fun to take this car to a road course and put it through some turns. Either that or put it in to Auto X, and do that. I am going to keep this car as stock as possible, as from what i have seen some people do that has pretty much ruined their cars, mainly lowering... doesnt really make much sense.

Full turbo back or cat back will still void your exhaust warranty on the car.(other part of the cars are still cover under warranty).

I will do the basic mods on the IX like drop in filter, Turbo back exhaust, boost controller and a tuned. (bammed! ~330WHP u get there!) less than $1500 investment and u will have a new BEAST!

Welcome to the forum!

nice, i came from an MSP as well. don't worry too much about your warranty, it's not much even if you are bone stock. it's all about your dealer, but anything major is usually a hassle to get covered, so just mod as you want and enjoy it. im starting small with exhaust and reflash, next year mbc and other small things, etc..., just small things each year, and until i do MBC i have a chance of having stuff covered if it breaks but i'm not counting on it

Yea, thanks bro. Cool to see someone else from the same background. Now about the reflash, what does that help. Is it like the MSP reflash? Or does it really improve performance?

Just read the link in my sig for some explanations and guidance. A flash is just a tuning method that reprograms your stock ECU. You get major gains on a IX with a flash...

Ok, i have been reading alot and doing some searching for a cat back exhaust. I got the offer from the guys that are offering the JUNBL exhaust for the 499 and 550 shipped to my door. I just want to know, since there are so many exhaust systems out there and so many people seem to have tried alot of diffrent ones and everyone who has bought diffrent systems seems to be happy with there choice, should i go with the first one i like or shop around a bit? I would really like a burnt tip but i DO NOT want this to leave marks or exhaust debri on the rear bumper. I would also like it to fit well. Those are my main concerns when it comes to exhaust. On my MSP i had a Apexi' N1 and the system was just flawed from the beginning. It never fit right, was basically touching the rear lip and ended up melting parts of it, and i would occasionally hear a rattle under the car from something loose or the exhaust just hitting the undercarrige of the car. What do you guys think?

Most will fit well, but if you really care about getting a little black residue on your bumper, then you'll have to choose one that sticks out beyond the bumper a little like the Buschur cat-back. The JUNBL is very nice, but it's more of a JDM style with all polished pipes (they turn brownish after it gets hot), and a huge tip. IT's also quite expensive ($500 is not good for a cat-back) for very minimal gains. You'll gain a ton more with a flash and mbc than you will with a cat-back, yet you'll pay less for the flash+mbc while not increasing the sound of the car, which is important in the DC metro area.

yea like warr said it's actually worth doing, not like the MSP one that did basically nothing.

for a cat-back, if i were to do mine again i'd go with the greddy sp2 simply for the quietness (if that's a word). i have a RNR TBE w/ HF cat and magnaflow muffler (i'd imagine it sounds similar to the buschur specd the same), and it sounds good at WOT but is just a bit loud. not terribly loud, but def noticable

Welcome, congrats on the car, the Warrtalon/Buschur Package Seems like the best way to go, if you can afford the downtime of sending your ecu in. I have heard nothing but positive comments about it and would also go with it, if my car was not a daily driver...But good luck with whatever you decide to do, just search and you will find...

MR06Evo, the WT package is designed specifically for daily drivers. It will not affect your drivability at all while giving another 60-70whp. If you were concerned about too much noise and/or emissions, then you could opt for the HFC and make a little less power, but it's still worth the huge gains.

I still daily drive mine with cams and alky running 26psi, haha.

Warrtalon, I know its a very good and safe package for daily driving...What i meant by daily driver though is that I dont have another car to drive during my downtime...Seems like an awesome package and maybe i will get a few days off soon and will be able to purchase it...
