Please don't miss my point. Just because one drives a manually transmissioned automobile, doesn't mean that he does it well. This is why I suggested a good book that addresses the subject directly.

it takes less than a second to get burnt..........unless when you drive you have some crazy ninja reflexes and you shift so fast know one knows what happened....
i was thinking of getting mine wrapped in leather because i know what you mean. it doesn't burn me or anything but it's hot as hell. also i used to have one for my WRX and during the winter times, my skin would stick slightly because it's so cold......sorta like sticking your tongue on a frozen metal pole just not that extreme.

I like to drive with my hand on the greddy counterweight knob and during the summer right now here in seattle is about 90 degrees and it gets extremely hot. I use the papers in my glove box and kinda scrunch it around it.
I have 20% tint all the way around and it still gets scorching hot after I work 8 hour shifts.

I can report u the MR shift knob is getting much hotter than my TT's alum shift knob
Audi/VW shift knob gets cool much faster
I have to use a paper to wrap the knob if it is too hot ....
I am looking for a MR compt shiftknob that wont get tht hot
5 min.s later it is still untouchable

I actually painted my Greddy shift knob with primer and 2 coats of black enamel paint .. and surprisingly... it helped it from getting super hot, even sitting on direct sunlight. I don't have tint on my car either. I'm not saying it kept it cool, but not hot enough to get burned.

Guys, why not learn how to shift correctly? There's a lot of money spent on mods and Bondurant's book is only ~$12. Read it, practice(!) and you'll become much better, safer, and faster drivers in the process. Honestly, it's painful to see folks complaining about something this trivial while driving one of the fastest/quickest cars on Earth.
When purchasing a FQ-400, a driving school comes as part of the package. We don't get the same luxury. Do yourselves a favor and pursue some kind of professional instruction on your own. Good drivers aren't born that way; it takes a lot of time, patience and know-how to master the skill. The first step is learning how to operate within the cockpit.

What does Bondurant's book have to do with how hot your steering wheel & shifter knob is? FJF you're point is well taken, but it's off the topic. Yes - we all need to learn to drive our cars. The topic is: Holy Hell - that's one hot shifter knob!!
Off Topic (kind of)... I watch those Bonderant guys all the time, but I've never signed up for the course. It's always jammed packed with people and I see the cars are always spinning and sliding around the track. I took a SCCA course and did a track event with them and found that to be much more informative than the Bonderant school.
