Or you guys in AZ can get one of these:

Even when I put something over the old metal shift knob, it was still hotter than hell. Spending the $65 for the all-leather Momo shift knob was the best investment I've made on this car. Even if my car is 130 degrees, I can keep my hand on the leather for as long as I want.

My favorite phrase so far in this thread was, "pubescent vitriol". That was a good one - LOL

The thing about leather or the ralliart or even aluminum knobs is that they are not heavy enough [edit - when used with a short throw shifter - edit] to act as a decent counter weight. Metal = heavy = good. That's why I like the Razo 340g or the Greddy Counter Weight.

let me get it straight:

a guy complains that his shift knob is hot after being in the sun (i hate that btw which is why i only use leather knobs) and FJF claims that the way to solve this is by using proper shifing techniques?
seriously, i have seen some useless posts on this site and this one is kinda at the top of the list. i guess all of us are idiots because we all said that the shift knob gets steaming hot...

oh well, maybe i should go buy some cooking books so i don't get burned from touching my oven..

I have the greddy counter weight, and maaaaaan does it get hot; to fix it, I just throw a sock over the shifter, and wala... no more burning.

if you guys have an iPod video, the soft little white case that comes with it makes for an awesome little slide-on jacket for my A-Spec titanium knob. if you forget to put it on when you get out of the car, when you get back in i, you can just slide it on and and drive with it.

i use this method reeeeligioussly and is awesome!

I'm truly astonished by your post. I have no idea why you felt the need to spin this into a strawman argument, but I congratulate you for assigning the correct nomenclature to your comments, nonetheless.

:-) Even though I've had some practice posting over the years, that phrase was conceived on/for EvoM. I don't come across some of the attitudes displayed on this site very often (if at all) and it meant a retune of sorts, if you will.

I also didn't get to mention how impressed I was by you and Big 10 taking the initiative to attend a driving school. I auto-x, myself, and even though I haven't been known for eating cones with any degree of regularity, there's an oval track that I refuse to run due to my previous efforts culminating a fireworks-like display of cone carnage.

Many readers of this thread acknowledged your point. You have hijacked it with a continuous barrage of restatements. Please start your own thread on proper shift technique and stay out of this one. Thank you.

The NEW and IMPROVED the watercooled shiftnob!
Resting your hand on your shifter can put excessive wear on a mechanism in in the shift linking or something.

I think that everybody here can agree that learning how to drive well is definitely a good thing; however, I think that alot of people do not see the connection between the proper technique and being burned by the shiftnob.

I can understand that the improved shifting techniques may actually reduce the amount of time that you touch the shiftnob, but truely the amount of time it takes to be burned by the nob depends upon its actual tempurature. Can somebody actually measure the tempurature of thier nob when it is at a high tempurature?

I don't own a evo but I do have a ralliart, which isn't even in the same leaque at all but I do have a hurst T handle in it that gets pretty hot. It is laughable but it used to be in my geo prism, which was a car that I used to deliver pizzas for about 4 years. I put the T handle in it originally as a joke but after awhile grew to like them. metal T handles do get very hot. My solution to the problem has always been to touch the thing as little as possible when it is hot. I've never really burned myself on it but I can imagine that it would be painful if I held it too long.

leave your CWK on just put a towel of a cloth of it when you exit the car; instead of spending $50.00+ on a new knob; my opinion after all the leather is going to fade away because of the sun

Not necessarily. Post #61 was a pic I took yesterday. Although it's only gone through two full Arizona summers, you can see the leather still looks like new. I don't know if this is due to superior leather from Momo (I hope so for what I paid for it) or if I've done my best to keep direct sunlight off of it. In either case, it's proof that leather can survive heat.

thats my point haha; forget about the leather its the shotgun hit that it gave your wallet; overall leather is a good way to go but it may hurt your wallet and if it does fade your going to be pissed.
