I have a garage now, so if I keep evo, I don't have to pay for storage anymore.
if I sell evo, I have a place to work on thing's
i.e. 240 swap and now that 450 a month go's in to rb26det.

btw silver 9 thanks for all you incite

so now you know a little bit more of the story.
do I keep evo as is lightly modded until I pay it off. 450 + 3g insureance (altho should be alot cheaper next year.)

or

do I sell and then slowly build up a 240sx.? cost 5g motor, 5g car, 10g parts , maybe 3g labor if needed.
You do have a backup daily driver, so if your 240 went down, you'd be solid.

If you start getting more serious about the 240, the next thing you need to look into is how available preswapped 240's are. If you feel you can trust another persons' swap. If not, here's a laundry list of things to chew on:

- How much do RB25's go for? (Engine/tranny is probably gonna run you 3-4k with shipping)
- If I can't or don't want to do the work, any good shops in my area? (If you're spending that kind of money, you NEED to be able to trust someone not to rip you off. Easier said than done)
- Part availability? (Face it, it's a Japanese engine. Due to the SR's overwhelming popularity, shops MADE SR parts available. RB parts might be more expensive and take longer to ship over)
- We've already covered space/tools and the time factor for having a swapped/modded car
- Consider any local state/county laws regarding smog inspections (if any)
- Consider different characteristics. The Evo is an overall beast. Great speed, great handling, 4-door with a robust engine. - That compared to a 2-door coupe with decent handling, RWD that's going to be 10 years older (consider things like interior/exterior shape and such)
- If you want to auto-cross, Evo. Drift? 240 and so on.

I think that's enough to consider for now. It'll be a longer more drawn out process to do the swap. That's good on monies, because you can invest as you go. It won't be an instant gratification type deal. - Think of it this way. While you might be paying 450 a month + 3g a year on insurance, you'll be dropping that 450 into the 240 (as you mentioned) for probably 2-3 years as well to cover the FULL costs of the swap/conversion. Also, consider all the downtime inbetween the larger portions of the swap. Primarily engine/tranny, of course. So you'd be in the Subie for a month or two, depending.

*breathe* OK...that's enough for now, haha.

I feel your pain. IM trying to buy a house, and real estate in Az is getting more and more ridiculous by the day. So the evo will probably have to go.

I have the benefit of working and living with my woman though so we have two cars and the house would be very close to work, so I might trade the evo in for an econobox car and have my woman drive that, and buy a project car like a 240.

To be honest though. Why an Rb25? I mean I have seen them for like 2500 with tranny, but why all the trouble. Just Turbo the Ka motor. My friend Nate has a turbo-KA with shot-peened rods, and forged pistons, and pieced together Ghetto turbo kit with a Holset turbo and he makes 400+ on the ****ty tune he has now. Hes only had very minor problems that were easily repairable and his car runs great.

You could get a really wel built AMS short block for a good amount cheaper than a stock RB motor and make plenty of power.

Go 240, it's one thing to go sr20, but it's a whole new ball game to go rb25. It still had loads of potential. Is there a chance for an rb26?

It would be a nice car but i dont think it would be as reliable as an evo, which brings in the question if this is a daily driver or project car. The 240 is a very capable car and was one of my original choices of cars before i got the evo. With a rb swap and s15 front end conversion you pretty much covered show and go with the car.

+1 for the KA. VERY underrated engine. 2.4l, plenty of potential with a build. Personally, I'd go that route over any swap.

Turbo ka, is cool. Sr is ok, Rb25, and rb26's are cool but parts are a pain to get. Just go to hinsosupercars, and get the ls1 mounts. Put an ls1 int he car, and you will have a 11 second reliable car, that parts are easy to get. Ive owned 3 swapped 240's. There a blast, but id rather have an evo. 240 would be a fun toy to have on the side. Good luck in what ever you do.

I have a couple friends with SR-20 swaps, and 1 with an S14 straight off the docks, and they all have their problems, but nothing horrible.

I have to ask tho, why the RB-25? I've been a Skyline guy for a while, and stuffed in an R33 or 34, the RB25 is sometimes concidered perma-slow without a lot of supporting mods and a kickass tune.

If I were to go 280 it would have to be SR-20, or try to shoehorn an RB26 in there.

amen to that. the rb26 det is a beast go own but parts are a pain in the butt to get. u have to get a crossmember and stuff to go with it and stuff. this place http://mckinneymotorsports.com/products has products that can assist u with ur swap. if u can get an rb26, beating a 'busa should be fun in either an s13 or s14. we have an s13.5 https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...hreadid=178092 that needs to be painted but its a blast to drive. my next obsession is the hinson ls1 in an FD3S. hoping to get about 550-600 whp in an NA setup.

don't do it. if the popo pop the hood and send you to the ref. it's over.

then you have to swap out the motor and such.

240's are the new civics, they are everywhere now. Not to mention if you sink 10 grand into a 240sx, and an RB, then you wreck it tommorrow...ur pretty much screwed, at least if you total the EVO, you'll get most of that cash back.

I want to drag evo, but I dont want to kill the stock clutch, and when I do need a new clutch their go's my drivetain warrenty.

basicly 240sx gives me power, and money and a car that I can "play" with.
why did you really buy the evo then..

I bought evo because I blew up my project turbo prelude

and I wanted a project GSX, but my g/f has an ecilpes so she didn't want for me to have the same car. so nexted best thing was Evo. I didn't trust a used one tho. and now I have a house so $$$ will start to be more tight. altho in 4 or 5 years evo would be a nice project car

its funny 05 evo + cams + fuel upgrades + big turbo and supporting mods = fast car. maybe I should just stick it out.
