help! from anyone with a Greddy Type RS! pls

Hi peoples,

I just finished installing a Greddy Type RS Bov ... at high boost it works great .. *10psi+* anything under that i get a flutter sound.... is this normal for this BOV... or am i getting compressor surge?

I already tried loosing the spring up ... as much as possible.

Thanks,
Vince

Do you have the valve installed correctly?

How many springs are you using?

Since you said you already have the adjustment screw out all the way, these are the only two things I can think of that would cause your problem.

BOVs do flutter. so at 9psi and down it flutters? 9 seems a bit high for it to flutter.

is your BOV new?

My bad. It's kind of hard to explain. I really dont have that much experience regarding aftermarket blow off valves, however, what i'm used to is even at 1-2 psi when you let off the BOV blows off or at least makes a sound that isn't compressor surge. But, none of those BOVs have been adjusted very hard as they've all run lower boost.

The problem with mine is that when the turbo is beginning to spool up and right before i hit that 0psi mark if i let off suddenly it will still make that flutter sound. I realize that some flutter is normal but are there specific differences in the flutering sound and compressor surge to look for? I just had a friend nuke his t78 because of a bad BOV so i'm a bit paranoid.

Also, I was looking online and noticed some springs for the Type-RS that had different rates. Do you think these are something to look into or is the stock spring fine?

Thanks.

stock spring is fine... As for the flutter you get when you let off just before psi reading on your gauge... Well you gauge could be a little off and you may be hitting 1psi or a little more. But none the less its fluttering because the engines vaccume is helping it open and the little of air flowing thru the pipe is helping it open and vent but being is not a lot air flowing it will flutter. Its okay, just dont try to make it do it.

I got the same exact problem with my greddy type s. This happened even with the one spring mod and adjusted to only a few turns on the spring. Usually when I would get on the gas, then let go of the throttle but not all the way,it would flutter. I changed it out to a JDM MR BOV and never had that issue again.

frankly Greddy Bov's suck...... I've used them in my evo and my DSM. you should've got an APS twin vent BOV. NO flutter at all. Part throttle or WOT. sounds good too.

So you obviously recommend the APS twin vent. I am considering purchasing a new bov, but am very indecisive as to what brand or style I want to get. My friend has an RS on his 06' VW GLI and I was considering taking it off his hands, however, I don't know if I am necessarily comfortable with this flutter issue (even if it's not directly damaging the turbo).
