Finally got my MR 9, experience w/ Dependable auto shippers
Hey guys,
I have been reading stuff here for about 4 months now, and I have been posting more lately, but I finally got an MR9 GG from South COast mitsubishi!!! I went to pickit up today from Dependable auto Shippers.I love it. I can't wait to finish the break in procedure and start modifying it.
I come from a background of old fiftys custom and restoration. I work on a lot of cars, and even went through the muscle car mood getting myself a 69 Camaro RS/SS........ Anyway, I am also a lot into motorcycle and starting to race supermoto. I have been racing SCCA club racing for about 3 years with a BMW 2002tii. That's me. I'm glad to join you guys. I am apretty good mechanic, but don't know much about turbo cars. I only know what I have been reading here so far.
As I was saying, I just got the car today from Dependable Auto Shippers, and I am gonna tell you my experience with those guys and South Coast Mitsubishi.
First of all, I bought the car in California because Mark Has insane prices. I would have had to pay 4k more here (thanks Mark!!!
) The experience with SCM was great. Mark is a great guy, and everything went very smoothly. That was great. I would definitely buy again from Mark! Dependable Auto Shippers is another story. First of all they were more expensive than a lot of other companies I found, but I figured since Mark know them and use them, they have to be decent. Well, if I were Mark, I would not recommand them to anybody!! The sales guy Berny Torres seems very nice, but he promises you a delivery date when he know that he can not deliver at that date just to get your business. I really do not appreciate that. It told me it was gonna be 10 days max fromt eh time the car was delivered to him. Well, after waiting for the day it was supposed to ship according to him, I called. Of course, he transfered me right away, pretending that he doesn't know what's going on. They told me my car was not gonna ship for another week. I was not happy!! especially knowing my car will be sitting outside in somebody's yard I don't know anything about!! anyway, after *****ing to the supervisor, she looks into it and finaly called me back the next day telling me that she found a truck earlier and that my car was gonna get there on Monday(today). It did, but It sucks that it is necessary to ***** to get what you were told you were gonna get in the first place!!!! Anyway, the car got here, they cleaned it, and scratched it!! There is a nice deep scratch on the driver side back door!! I am so pissed. I filled a claim with them, to now find out they have a $100 deductible on the $250 that they cover!!! Of course , I was nto told about that and it was nowhere to be found! Well to make a story short:

I don't think I'd ever use a shipping company. Some guy that bought my old Integra Type R had it shipped, and I guess it was broken into in transition, and the shipping company replaced the stolen interior with crappy Integra LS seats. They kept telling this guy that there was a delay, which bought them enough time to "replace" everything. I'd rather drive down myself and haul it back up.
Congrats, by the way.

Hey all, I am new here, but wanted to chime in on this post. I currently have cash in hand and have been in touch with Mark at SC Mitsu. He's trying to locate me a Blue with SSL. Anyhow, aside from a small scratch here and a late delivery there, has anyone had any MAJOR issues, like probs. with suspension (bc they chain them down however they damn well please to the truck) or anything like that? It seems that everyone that had a prob. SC tried to resolve......anyone? thnx

P^2, I don't think anyone's had any major issues. I wouldn't worry too much about the whole suspension issue. What I'd try to do is, go to one of the local dealerships and have them call SC Mitsubishi to verify their price, and see if they'll match it. It'll cost around $1000 to have it shipped, so figure that into the price. If it works, it's a much better alternative for obvious reasons. Even if it costs you $500 more, I'd personally just buy locally. Peace of mind is priceless.
Good luck.
Good luck.
P nut... funny you say that. I walked into the Mitsu dealer here in Jax. NC. and threw out the numbers SC was offering and they laughed. I have a check in hand and they still said no way in hell. I even stood there for a minute to look at 2 salesman turning down a sure thing, I mean I'm ready to buy right now, not next week, and they just watched me walk out the door. My neighbor has a white IX, and paid 300 over invoice..is that a good price?
Congrats on the awesome new car, but scratches suck! But, FWIW, I worked in car sales and people have no idea what they're purchasing when they buy a new car. That ain't the only scratch that's ever been on that car; I'll guarantee it.
You should do a search for dependable auto shippers, and checkout their feedback on the better business bureau's site. They are notorious for saying whatever they have to say to get your deposit. I had a car shipped from PA to OH and had a quote of 10 days. Long story short, after 30 days I had to threaten to report the car stolen to the PA staties before they would tell me that it was still at the terminal. A week later I had a car completely, and when I say comepletely I mean completely, covered in bird ****. And the hillbilly that pulled the car off the transporter dropped the chain that was holding my car onto the hood of the car on the lower level. Who knows how much damage that caused. I filed a complaint with the BBB, along with the several hundred other complaints that I found there.
For my next out of state purchase I found a private towing company to flatbed a car from VA to OH for the same price I paid those morons at DAS and i got my car the next day.
My most recent purchase required a drive to TN to pick up the car, a small price to pay not to have to deal with shady scam artists.

holly craap, I guess my little scratch is no big deal compared to your story!!!
It just sucks when you are waiting for your car!!! I can't stand not knowing who it handling it, where it is, etc.....
I got an alarm installed yesterday in the car, and was freaking out all day thinking that somebody else was in my car!! I know I am weird!!
Anyway, I went to the local dealers. All of them. They told me it is impossible that they sell the MR for that price, that they don't even buy it for that price....they all were like, you will receive a regular evo with just a kit on it, etc......
I drove by a dealer last night and parked next to 2 of the sales guys. They asked where I got the car, and I told them, I got it in Calif, and that I went to them but they wouldn't budge on their price and that I got it for 33K!!
Loved their faces!! They wanted 41K for the MR there!!

Iwas thinking of doing the same thing for my MR but I found a guy local enough to make it worth it. I paid 34,500 for mine. No shipping hassle and only had 8 miles on it when I bought it. Thanks O'Brien Mitsu Fort Wayne IN
My experience was very similiar to the OP.
Mark was great to deal with - no complaints with him, or SC.
However DAS was a week late in getting my car to me, and there are a few small scratches on the lower part of the rear bumper from what I assume was the chain from where the car was held down.
Had it delivered door-to-door, and since I had specific instructions NOT to wash the car prior to delivery, I didn't see the marks until after I started cleaning it.
Oh well, I work at a dealership with a good bodyshop, and I'll just have them fix it up for me. $300, which includes all the labor (pulling the bumper off the car to prevent overspray), flex agents, paint, etc.
So yeah, SC and Mark are great.
DAS, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

If Mark and the rest of the folks at SC wanted to clean up 99% of their issues with customers that buy cars from them, they would end their relationship with DAS immediately.
Bernie Torres is an outright liar. He knows the odds of delivering the car "in 10 days" are a 100 to 1. When you experience the inevitable delays, Bernie is nowhere to be found.
Mark and SC take no responsibily when it comes to DAS, which is understandable to a certain extent, but does not reflect well upon them.
In my business, the vendors we have relationships with have to meet the same level of customer satisfaction that my company provides, or they are gone.
DAS is a joke, and makes SC look like a joke as well.
