Buying an Evo IX MR

I have to make a tough decision and I was hoping for some input from you guys. I went to the dealership and I negotiated an Evo IX MR with the appearance package down to $34,200 after my $500 loyalty rebate. I later called up my insurance company to see what the premiums would cost me since I had a real bad 2004. Insurance would run me $6340 this year and should drop to around $3000 in September of next year. I can deal with the $3000, but $6340 is way too much for me at this point and Allstate is definitely giving me the best rate among everyone else I've checked with. My insurance agent suggested that I have my father buy the car and insure it under his name, keep my 03 Lancer (which the dealer only wanted to give me $5000 for) and just "borrow" the evo from my dad on the weekends until my insurance comes down.

So every month I'll end up paying the insurance on the evo which would cost $1300 a year, the insurance on my Lancer, and then I will have the payments on the Evo. Or I can just hold off on buying the Evo IX until September of next year, if I can find one still.

I'm just wondering what you guys would do in my situation? Also, am I getting a good deal on the MR and how rare are these going to become 6 months to a year down the road?

try and sell your car outright for more. Get your dad to add you to his insurance.

well look at it this way, the Evo VIII was on sale for 4 yrs, 2 yrs before the MR was released. for the Evo IX its even less than that, with the IX being around for maybe 3 yrs before the X comes to the states, about half will probably become MR models, and a total worldwide net sales of probably 8,000 annually-worldwide. so the evo is rare, in any skin,-more -so for MR and RS models.

I looked up my regular rates and it was around $2200.00 for a year and that was a quote from Geico.

Most likely i will go through 21st, they handle my motorcycle and truck and their rates are not to bad.

o by the way, dont expect good resale for an EVO. these rice rockets hold a market of ppl between the ages of 16-21yrs old, and at 36k for a IX Mr on the fl coast here - this car was made for a specific niche, so specific that it could potentially hurt its sales and does hurt its resale value.

to be honest with you, buy an acura, you sound like a honda guy. not to mention the difference between the EVO and any acura - concerning insurance rates- the evo will always be higher due to its reputation for being a "race" car. my insurance company considered my 350Z to have less liability than my evo and charged me 107 less per month with my Z than my Evo, but i still own the evo and not the Z hehe.

No offense to people owning a Honda or an Acura, but I have zero interest in ny of those cars and I don't understand why you would steer me away from the Evo. And while $6000 for insurance is too high, at no point would I ever be paying that, whether my father buys the car and insures it, or I buy it myself a year from now.

I was paying $1400 a year for my Lancer until I got a ticket, and in two accidents all within 9 months, now I am paying $2700. Plus NJ insurance is always more expensive than other states.

My friend out in PA had 12 points and 1 accident and he is still paying only 1200 for his RSX

Jesus Christ, I won't ever be paying $6000/yr. I'll only be paying $1300 the first year and then maybe $3000 after that if I transfer the car to my name.

The problem is do I really want to buy a car now in case I can't get one a year from now even if that means I really won't be able to enjoy every single day.

So baiscally the insurance agent told you to commit Insurance fraud is what you're saying? How old are you, and how "bad" was 2004? You may want to hold off on the evo for a while if 6k per year is the only option, the evo is fun, but not worth 6k a year in insurance. Is your dad going to pay for it all anyways?

My insurance agent said it is totally legal because my father is allowed to let me borrow the car occasionally since I have my own insurance, I just can't drive it all the time. I am 26 and I had 2 accidents (broke an axle in the snow and I damaged my frame one time when I hit a really bad dip) and 1 ticket (careless driving). Like I said, all 3 of those will be off my insurance record next September.

My father wouldn't be paying for anything. I'd be paying for the insurance on the car when it is put under his name as well as the payments on the car. I would rather wait to buy the evo, I'm just worried that they are going to be really hard to find new a year from now when the X comes out.
