My first mods...

Hey guys,

Im thinking of starting some mods, what do you guys recommend...from what I have read ... drop in filter should be the first, if so, what is the best drop in filter for the 06 IX MR?

Thanks in advance for any input

TBE (turbo back exhaust) would be good

HKS would be a good drop in filter.

Searching would be the first mod I would recommend to you... Anyways for the car, I would do TBE, MBC and Flash. Buschur Racing has a nice stage 1 you can do for the Evo 9 and it comes with everything you need to make around 400 hp (like the warrlton package). Very Awesome start for beginners to modding!

TBE would be good.. you dont need a drop in filter.. your stock IX airbox is fine.

Yeah, The Warrtalon Package for the IX's, includes everything you'll need to be in the low 12's except drivin' skills, and it's relatively a bargain. IMO, a well thought out package is preferable to the piecemeal approach. Good Luck.

As far as drop in filters, Works drop in is the best, no question. It's the only one to have shown proven gains of atleast 5WHP to 10WHP on a dyno. I put it in I feel, I take it out and I notice it's missing, so it does make a little difference.

After that you should go with a Turboback Exhaust, there are plenty of options on which one you would like. As far as legality, well it depends on where you live, but I believe most states allow them as long as you still have a cat or a high flow cat. But if you want the biggest gains, the cat will need to be replaced with a test pipe.

A Manual Boost Controller is also an option, it's up to you if you feel you need it. I have one, it cost me $40.00, and for $40.00 I f*cken love it!

After all of that, your gonna need to get tuned. There are many Flash options for you, you can go custom dyno or mail in, what ever you like. Depending on your tuner and how strong your IX is, after the tune, you should be making atleast 310WHP. If you have a stronger IX you'll be making more than 330WHP.

Cost depends on you, the Warrtalon package is a hell of a deal, and if I had it over again, I would have done it. But I wanted a custom tune, so you should be looking at paying anywhere from $1,000 to $1,700 for mods and tune. My mods in the end will have cost me $1,690 with a custom tune costing me $850 of that $1,690. Hey but after that it's only $250 per tune.

+1 -- TBE (whatever you like), MBC (Hallman - cheaper and works great), Drop In (K&N or Works -- I do not like any HKS filters (not reuseable and dont filter as well as others), Custom Tune (whoever you like the most)

Example: (On a budget) -- Megan Racing DP - 160, Megan Racing Cat-back - 380, K&N drop-in - 60, Custom tune - ~400. Total = about 1000 for parts.

That will net you 315+ whp easy on a 9.

My bad - $500. I could have sworn they were 400 back when mine was done.
