Air filter.

I feel so bad for having to ask this question, but Buschur is closed.
and in my DSM days we just bolted the filter on and rolled.

My wife recently purchased parts for me for doing such a good job on the hardwood floors.
Long story short, one of the parts happened to be an air filter that replaces the stock air box. Do I need an ECU flash just to run the filter? Reason for asking is that I see ppl getting ECU flashes done for the smallest of modifications.

not necessarily but it may make your car run a little rough, getting a flash would be kind of a waste though if you plan on doing more mods like a TBE because you will just have to be flashed again. I plan on buying parts as extra money comes along and then when i have everything i need i will install them all at once and get a flash only once to save $. Just my .2

BTW: lets see pics of the floors

u shouldnt need a tune for just a filter, but u will see different boost levels. I had the filter kit from buschur on my car and some friends of mine did as well "pre tune" and it run fine i just had to adjust my EBc. if u dont have a boost controller dont worry about it

If your planning on doing more mods..than wait to put them all on at the same time..so i agree with Bigl4201.

So you agree that a car with a filter is going to run rough ???

I would love to hear both of you guys explain to me and the rest of the forum why.....

For an intake u need a tune, for a filter kit (from buschur) u dont need a tune. My car and my friends cars never had any idle or rough running from the (bucshur) filter kit nor have i heard of anyone having probs with that kit. How ever other filter kits i have heard of "rough running" and other things like that. But on another note... dont expect any gains from a filter kit, all u will get outa it will be a bov sound and little more turbo sound.

U dont need a tune for every mod u do... it just gives u more then with out tuning for most parts.. how ever things like exhaust, upper ic pipe, filter kit, these things dont "need a tune" but would u benefit from a tune, the answer is yes..

You don't NEED the tune, it's just recommened to extract the most power out of the mods. Minor bolt ons, you will be fine, its just once you start adding fuel pump and intakes is when you should get the tune, but I say just get all the parts you plan on using, then get the tune so you don't have to keep getting retuned. I say set a goal of your power wanted, search the forums to see what mods give you what power, and then decide from there.

get a tune for the intake and buy a mbc. once you get the ecu tuned install the filter and mbc. you will not need a re-tune for tbe. as for installing the filter without a tune you may not notice any driveability issues but i would stall when pulling up in a drive through or in stop and go traffic.

Stop spreading false information. You should get tuned even with a TBE to get the most power out of it. Why even bother if you're not gunna get the most out of it, every little change effects something.

**note the stalling issues from evo150 might be due to the fact its not a "buschur filter kit" like u have and r asking about.. only reason i think hes talking about a different kit is that he has a rmr kit for sale in his sig

Certain intakes/air filters cause turbulance for the maf- throwing the readings off hence causing the car to pull timing cause the maf sees to much air comming in ... readings are off, car could run weird ..

Answer the question the correct way :P
An air filter should be last on your list ... but if your going to get a tune ALONG WITH OTHER PARTS - go ahead and throw it on ...

Best thing to do is buy all the mods you plan to start with and will have for a while without change. Install them at the same time and then get yourslef a reflash.
