2003 or 2005 Evo?

Hi,
Ive been looking around this forum for awhile now, and been a long time Evo lover for even longer. Unfortunately, Im not lucky enough to be able to get an 06 Evo and am in the market for a used one. So I came across two Evos that are Black (the color Im looking for).

2003 Evo with 28,000 miles for $22,000
2005 Evo with 17,000 miles for $26,000

I had a couple of questions. One, what are your opinions on these prices? (I checked KBB values and both are lower than KBB). Second, are there a lot of differences as far as engine/suspension between the 2003 and 2005 Evos? I know the 2006 is redone and theres a good number of differences. In other words, is the fact that one is 2 years older than the other worth the $4,000 difference?

No big difference between the two years.

Those prices are good. I was thinking about selling mine to get an IX. But I was going to go for 25K modded. Make sure that they shift gears smooth and the T. Case doesn't have any whine. If they're are good, scoop one up.

Hey- it looks like we are going to have a dyno day in Houston at Engine Logics in October if you want to check out a few different models and set-ups. Vishnu stage cars.

I'd go with the 05. 10k miles difference, two years newer, and its quicker. 2005>2003. If you can shell out the extra 4k, I suggest you do so.

If you have the money for the 05, go for it but if not the 03 is pretty much the same.

Yea, I guess that was my main concern as far as other differences (or maybe people have heard there tends to be a lot of little minor problems with one year over the other or something).

i'd say go for the 05 for sure. but if u already have plan for mods....u could always save the 4k, get the 03, and dump 4k in mods good luck mate, let us know what u end up getting. and welcome to the Evo family.

Biggest differences are 10.5 hotside gives the 05 a little more power, and it also has the front lsd which will keep your transfer case better protected if you drive aggressively.

I would say the slightly bigger turbo and LSd are not worth 4K. Are they bolth stock?

I didn't realize the HID's were not standard on the newwer models. hose are areally nice to have. The only ting the 05 hs that I would really want it the LSD. The bigger turbo is nice, but can be swapped pretty cheap, or you can go to a full turbo kit for the 4K you save.

To add, 05+ have ACD. Given that and the FLSD, etc it's a no-brainer which to buy.

Would these differences show within just city driving though? I never really plan on dragging it or taking it to the track (maybe when Im done with school), but its mainly just a car for me to have while Im away at college.
