No, they have a chip in the key...difficult to steal.

breaking in is easy, just crack a window

Or punch out the lock... That happened to me last week, pretty crappy, and people who know more than I do about car theft said it looked like they were probably in and out in about a minute. That's just breaking in and stealing stereo, etc. though. As for driving away, I don't think it's quite as simple, but it can be done, that's for sure.

my wife's 2001 civic has the same style "smart" key as the evo- so I don't think you're going to get in either and just drive away w/o the key. However, this would also seem to make them just as easy, or difficult, to drive away.

If someone wants your car bad enough, they're going to get it. It doesn't matter if it has a chipped key or not. They'll just have a more difficult time getting the car, but that's all.

It used to be claimed that The Club couldn't be broken. Well, that changed with dry ice dumped in the lock. Then it would just crack.

HaHAahahah most of you guys are so clueless. You actually let the dealer trick you into thinking the immobilizer will save your car?

Not to burst anyones bubble but dc2 integras from 99 and up have immobilizers too that doesnt stop them from getting stolen.

The only key that is slowing a thief down is those Mercedes laser cut keys.

Evos are just as easy to steal as civics only difference being not everyone has something to swap all the parts to, unlike the civic which everyones mom has so thats why integras get stolen, easy swappage.

Just like people are starting to steal RSX now for the K20. As long as Honda keeps producing nice motors Mitsus will remain relatively safe.

So dont go and worry about it. Just don't be so naive to think that someone can't break your window and pop your ignition out and start it.

This is my opinion.....like the guy said above if someone wants your car its as good as theirs if they have the right tools....all the security in the world will not stop them. The only thing the alarm does is scare off amateurs and all the other things will just slow them down. The longer you make them take the more they will think your car is too hard to get. So the club, autolock, kill switches, removable steering wheel, those arent to stop them from taking it. It is to slow them down enough to realize it is too much trouble and they might as well go to the next one that has nothing protecting it.

All this experience is from when my integra was stolen and recovered due to my lojack. I dont want anyone in here to be naive enough to believe a stupid *** car salesman. They dont know ****, which is why they get stolen off the dealership lot.

IMO, the best protection from the car being driven away is a fuel cutoff switch hidden VERY well. You can easily splice one into the fuel pump wiring and if they get it started it won't go far. Like JDMevoBOOST said, it's all about making them give up.

Another easy thing to do if you find yourself in a bad neighborhood and you have to leave you car is to pull the ignition fuse from the fuse block in the engine bay. Just take off the cover and on the under-side will be a diagram. Look for the picture of the key with a broken line above it, I think it's #40 and green if I remember right. This will at least disable the ignition as long as they don't bridge it

Relative to production numbers, not volume. Still bad news though

The reason it easy to stel the 99-01 tegs and such is due to the fact you can plug in a earlier model ecu w/o the immobilizer and drive away. You CANNOT do this with an EVO cause there is not an earlier model to take the ECU from baring an overseas ECU. So no you cant break in pop the ignition out and start it. Just to inform.

All of the cases of Evos getting driven away the thief found the keys. That istance with the blue evo at the dealer lot was most definately an inside job
