yeah i took mine through gravel... and luckily there were super-sized gravel that completely pwnt my front end. Ok so it's not horrendous, but there's a good 4 inch dent. In fiberglass no less.

I've considered it, but I've got enough rock chips from daily driving.

I've only been able to use gravel mode in heavy rain.

Yeah, that event is right in your backyard!

You can get more info about the event from http://www.nrscca.com/ even though there isn't too much at the moment, but keep tuned and check the forums there.

If you decide to compete, look for a red IX RS with mudflaps and gravel wheels/tires, that would be me.
