Maintenance
How do you take care of your evo or what personal recommendations would you give...
Reason I as is I picked up an 06 Rally Red MR last thursday evening. It was purchased and then returned when the guys financing didn't work out so it had 2000miles on it. I have since last thursday already added another 1000miles to the car. I tend to drive atleast a 1000miles each week. I use to have a boosted EP3 Civic Si (2004), I took it for the 30k and 60k maintenance services and besides that I did the normal oil changes every 3000-4000miles and checking over all the boost parts every other day or so. THis being boosted from the factory and awd drive I'd just like to know how to take care of it or whats recommended.
Basic q's..
when to take it back to the dealer for maintenance service (mileage).?
what to expect to pay for the maintenance service (estimation)?
how often do you change oil (which oil) ?
Any other information would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, I would also like to know? For some reason I'm still a little scared into buying the evo ix because I keep hearing horror stories that the clutch and transfer case on the evo's go out fast. Damn I thought they where built a lot better. In addition to that everyone keeps telling me that mitsu won't be around for much. Damn why does everyone keep saying negative things about the evo. All my buddies say I should opt and get the STI.

First off, as far as maint. goes, refer to the manual... or the search up in this piece is great too. OIL... use mobil 1 FULL synthetic 10w30, and a mitsubishi oil filter along with it. I change oil every 3000k. NO EXCEPTIONS! Along with my oil change, I've been changing the Front and REAR diff oil too. Mitsubishi OEM DIAQUEEN is recomended for those. Usually runs anywhere from 50-70 bucks at the dealer, for a jug of it. The jug should last you about 4-5 changes easily.
As for being afraid, dont be. like anything, it will last for a loooong time with the proper care. The Transfer cases on the 03 and 04 were weaker than that of the 05 and 06 Evo. Jsut dont go any wheels hopping hard launches, and you'll be fine. Just take good care of it. Little things can make a huge difference. Always warm the car up, and let it cool down before shutting it off. Also, give the tranny, and Front & Rear Diff's a chance to properly warm up, so take it easy on the speed for a few blocks, just to let it all circulate.
Oh... and if your planning on keeping that factory warrenty, but still want to mod your Evo, keep all your stock goodies handy.

thanks gregfromblur.
reason I mainly asked was when I looked through the manual is shows a service for every 5000miles (5k, 10k, 15k.. and so it goes on), but no oil changes or anything inbetween.

If your driving it as a daily driver and not racing it you will be fine changing your oil every 5k like the manual tells you. I have 40k on mine and change it every 5k and have no issues. Also I have been doing drive train 30k without issue as well. Now if you track or drag it that is different story.

evos are known to have weak clutches...but i know a lot of guys who are pulling 30+ even 50+ miles on it. just take care of it. as for drivetrain...dont launch your car off the rev limiter. previous evos didnt have a rev limiter so they were able to launch off 1st gear at like 7k rpm...of course their car broke. lol.
im sorry, i should have mentioned that i am an **** freak, and prefer my oil done at 3k miles. you can totally do it at 5k tho, im sure its totally fine. like i said, im a weirdo.
My cousin has an 03 Evo... still on his stock clutch. hes at 35k miles, and its totally fine. Just dont launch a lot on it, and that thing will go the distance for sure!!
as for the TC warrenty, thats why i told you to keep all stock parts on hand! That way, when you mash up all the gear in the transfer case, you can slap them stock parts back on, and go tow it to the shop.
