The Evo might be as fast from a stop but on the highway a stock Evo is not keeping up with an M3 and much less a lighter M-Coupe/M-Roadster. I have an S2000 and it would give Evos a run beat some . When ever I lined up against M3 from 60 MPH+ though they would be ahead of me by cars. Specially an SMG Model from a highway roll it will always have perfect rev matches and shifts.

Needless to say im getting an Evo and keeping my S2000. The Evo is more mod friendly. I wanted an M3 but I will have to do a car payment on my next car. I dont want to buy a 02-03 M3 with 30,000 miles. I wanted under 15,000 miles with nav and 19 inch wheels. Which is going for 45,000-50,000 used CPO for an 04-06 model.
the M3 is only a better car when sitting inside it. under the hood they are equally as brilliant as far as performance. they are also two completely different platforms. 2 door vs 4 door....awd vs rwd....etc etc...

all you really are paying for between an Evo/STi vs a E46 M3 is the interior.
Not everyone likes the same type.

Z06 are compared to the F430. You are talking about cars for 1/2 the price that can perform. The Evo fits that mold alot of people feel that way about the Evo. My friends 1999 M3 keeps up with STI and I've kept up with STI and lost to some in my S2000. An Evo from a highway roll stock is not touching an E46 M3. From a stop it could happen but as soon as you hit 100 MPH the M3 will keep pulling away.

well i haven't done anything in my evo to respond...but i'm simply talking from experience in my STi on and off the drag strip

and on a personal note...i'd never pay money for vettes and vipers or any other domestic garbage my property value might suffer if i had one in the garage

Come on the new Z06 is a great car. Plenty of people who have owned Ferrari and Porsches are buying them. I didnt know property values in NC were sky rocketing right now with how slow currently real estate is.

Each to his own.

I do agree RWD VS AWD car completely different.

don't kid yourself. viper/corvette > EVO... you're not in the same performance class. both of them out handle, out run, and stomp EVOs stock for stock. the only thing you got over them is a backseat.

theres no street EVO that can compete with a street S3R Heffner VIPER. the Vipers and corvettes have way more potential than an EVO.

A better car is a pretty vague statement. Better how? I traded my 2003.5 M3 (SMG) on an 06 MR and I couldn't be happier. The M3 was prettier, yes. The M3 was more solid, yes. The M3 had a better interior, yes (except the seats!). But the EVO accelerates better, handles better, stops better, and is a lot more fun to drive.

You're smoking something. I also own an S2000 and my EVO would eat it for lunch at any speed.

What do rev matches have to do with highway rolls, by the way?

I don't see why the hell any of this started in the first place. I like Evo's and I respect them, that's why I came here in the first place.

The Evo and the M Coupe/M3 are two entirely different animals. One is a powerful, turbocharged four cylinder; the other is a normally aspirated, high-reving inline-6.

The power delivery is entirely different. The handling characteristics are entirely different. It's comparing apples to oranges, which isn't really possible. There isn't a single bad thing to be said about the S54, or any NA motor that pushes over 100hp/litre.

Not so much rev-matching, but downshifting and reving into the motors sweet spot. At 90 I will usualy rev it to 7,500k and drop the clutch in third... Not so much rev matching, but you get the point.

Oh, and the SMG is cool, but Audi's system owns it on every level. The SMG is fun, but it's also a lot heavier than a stanard MT.

haha...dont mistake me not liking vipers and vettes for ignorance. I never said an Evo is a faster, quicker or would out perform vipers or vettes. i just don't like those cars at all. if i had the money to buy one or the other, id buy a carrera S or a cayman S depending on the price or sell my kidney and get a 911 turbo

you can call me out on my ignorance from bad spelling and grammar

I dont see Z06 Vettes parked where real Estate Values are under 750k.

haha real estate is suffering nationwide...people arent buying and selling residential property these days like they used to...

but on the other hand no need for me to make matters worse and put a (in my opinion) fast POS in the garage...

if i could afford anything from the 60,000-90,000 dollar range in cars...vippers and vettes wouldn't even be on the list....i'd rather buy a slow luxorius german car. or a nice porsche

lol come to NC...there is a vette down the street. Z06 and the house is no more than 250k...most people i see down here with vettes are stupid hicks that spent all their life savings on their car then their house.

and a vet will never be classy. at least the evo's basic lancer interior looks nicer than the vettes basic GM interior.

people in this area that have 750k + homes don't have vettes in the garage

In Southern Cali, there are no houses for less than $750k.

For the price of a Z06, I would much rather get a GT3
