Should I get an Evo?????
Should I get an Evo?????
I have had my 05 WRB STi since March of 05, and I am still very much in love with it.. I've probably dropped close to 2,500 in mods into the STi and right now it has close to 17,000 miles on it. It is payed off and all mine.
I'm at a pivotal point.. Do I go ahead and spend about 5,000 more to get my Turbo, FMIC, Coilovers, and keep the car? Or do I trade it in? I have been looking at the Evo IX a lot and for some reason I really want an Evo. These 2 cars are definitely my top 2 choices for cars.
Is it worth it to get an Evo and start from scratch? Or should I cross the bridge and invest a huge chunk in my STi..?
I know a lot about the Evo.. I've driven my buddy's Evo VIII and ridden it a lot so I know how awesome the Evo is... but I'm at a tough point.. the money really isn't an issue.. I mean I should be able to get 25ish for my STi with an Intake, Catless Downpipe, HKS Carbon Ti Exhaust, and the Cobb Accessport.. then drop like 2,500 and pay off the rest in a year.. so money really isn't an object..
Should I get an Evo IX/MR or keep my STi??

If you're happy with your car, keep it. It's already paid off, and you've already thrown money into it.
Not to mention, you're really going to take a hit on your STi if you go to trade it in. You will not be reimbursed for mods, and in most case you will not get a dime in return, regardless if the car is modded. It's not a selling point. It's a turn-off.
If you want an Evo, then get an Evo. I'd personally keep the STi and wait to see what comes out next. It's not like you have a slow or sh*tty car.
This close to the end of the IX lifespan, with an already quick/modded car, I honestly would hold off.
As Sinister Subaru said (bah, say THAT 3 times fast), you'll be taking not only a major depreciation hit, but also a big loss on your mods, as you can't transfer them to your new car. Also, since your car is paid off already (good job on that BTW, no debt is better than any debt), it just doesn't make any financial sense to ME to do something like that.
Now, if you had a reason to be able to write off such a purchase (show car, shop car, ect), then it might be more reasonable. However, I'm not an accountant, nor do I play one on TV, so talk to a tax professional into the implications of that.
Honestly, you'd be loosing more than $5k on trading. That same $5k, as you said, would get you a lot of spiffy parts and whatnot for your car.
Finally, be happy with the sweet ride that you have. Not trying to come across as a d!ck, or anything like that, but you do have a very cool ride (even unmodded), one that many people would just about kill for.
Whatever you do though, good luck!

Fine by me.As my next car I would really love to have a "new" Camaro, but at the same time it would be nice to have something that isn't such a "mosh pit" all the time. I already own a Camaro and an STi- both of which are sporty (and loud) cars with stiff riding suspensions and a lack of comfort. Sometimes I feel like it would be nice just to have something that I don't have to "drive," but can rather just sit back, relax, and make a nice, quiet trip to wherever I need to go. I'm not talking a puffy geezer pleaser like a Buick, but definitely something that's a little bit more luxurious than a Camaro or an STi/STI. Perhaps, maybe something like a Grand Prix GT or something.....I dunno, but definitely something with at least a little bit of sporting flair.
