As far as driving in the snow with the advans, I definitely would agree to avoid doing so if you can help it. I wound up having to replace them because of serious chunking at 9k miles and I wondered how much driving through the snow contributed to that. I know a lot of people have had problems with the stock advans wearing early anyway, but iirc they were wearing pretty well until that drive, when they started to degrade rather quickly.

don´t know how much snow you have over there, but over here in Estonia and Finland EVO is much more fun during the winter, than any other car.
the only problem is, that you really cant find any 17" tires with good grip...they are just too wide....i change my front brakes every winter, so i can use 16".
if u have to use 17" ...belive me....the best buy is NOKIA Hakkapelita 2, the only 17" 235/45 with spikes.
good luck driving....keep in mind, that during winter u have to know where u r driving (meaning, u need to know the corners before u reach them, so u can "through" your car into them sideways)

I was forced to buy a set of Blizzaks when i was snowed in in PA. I drove on the stock potenza's (already bald) from the hotel after digging out the car about 2 miles to the nearest firestone that luckily had blizzaks in stock...slapped them on and it was like driving on dry pavement. I love them!

oh this was on my 05' STi btw haven't seen snow in the 2 weeks i've owned the evo

Unfortunately i Sold my Precius MR2 It was a SW20, It had about 260whp, dynoed at 14psi i got 240 whp, and I ran a 14.00 flat at 103mph. It was Fast, but not a fast as evo. I could have made it go Lots Faster, when i sold it it was running 93 gas or better put some cam2 in once, At 16 psi. I kinda Miss it. I got pics and it was red and shinny, very shinny.

I had these tires on last winter. What a great tire. Ahhh, I still have them on. I drove on them all summer too! I intended to get them off, I have my summer treads in the garage. Well the M3 Wintersports still look great. So the wear is awesome too. Recommended.

As for the front end, yeah, if the snow is deep you can have some problems. I pushed in the screen in front of the intercooler when we had a record snowfall late this last winter.

All season or snow tires, you will have no problem....... Why get another beater just for winter, I bought EVO because it was all wheel drive......

Winter + Evo + Stock tires = bad time

Winter + Evo + All seasons = good time
