sponsorship. what does it mean?

with the things that i plan on doing to my evo a couple of the people i have talked to have told me that i should look into sponsorship. but i have no friggin clue what exactly that entails. What rules would be put forth into what i could do with the car, like i just dont understand any of it so if anyone could fill me in that would be great

Sponsership means that a company is backing your car... However do not think it is all great, and most of the time I think it is BS... You wear there logo, and .... thats about it. Sometimes they give you perks like discounted parts, or allow you to trade in your older equipment for newer models, and such, but that is only if you are really deep into it. One nice thing about it is that they sometimes to pay for you to enter your cars into shows, but most company (espically they big ones) want you to be freaken active all the time before you get any real help from them asides from the free T-shirt and a sticker for your car.

Did you REALLY need to post that "Warr" will be here soon? Why even post if you're not gonna help the guy? I think "Warr" is your idol.

You have excellent customer service skills. "Someone will be right over to answer your question sir." Honestly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see any need to post that. I didn't help him but I don't think he needs me or anyone else to say help is on the way Thats just gay, noob.

A sponsorship means a company can hook you up with free or discounted parts...and in return you have to spread the word about how good of a company they are...wear t-shirts, put stickers on your car, show off your parts.

It means that you become someone else's servant and your car their property even though you're the one that makes the payments and insurance. Be your own sponsor.

Sponsorship, as far as I know, is a way for companies to advertise their products and to some extent have spokesperson 'in the field'. There are big corporations and small(er) ones and there are private companies and tuners. What they're looking for is something in return for their marketing budget. How much they want from you depends on who they are and how much they ar paying you.

Form my experience (although it might be different in the US) you basically approach a guy in their marketing/advertising/sales whatever department who is in charge of their motorsport activities and bascially sell your team (or yourself) to them. Things like what car you're using, what events you intend to enter, your teams qualifications or credentials etc.

What you get depends on a lot of things. I mean, it could be anything from cash to support vehicles to engineers from Japan. Sometimes they are limited to the kind of things they can give you for some reason so you might end up getting more oil than you could ever sensibly use but you can sell it for cash, that sort of thing. Sometimes it gets a little political, like if Subarus have a deal with Pirelli, they probably be a little hesitant if you're backed by Bridgestone and are asking for half off an sti or something.

IMHO if you're a private individual, and with every repsect to you, I doubt you will get sponsored by the big names without some personal connection. Sure, on one will refuse you putting their stickers on the car but you won't get a lot in return. At the end of the day, someone in your sponsors company is going to ask how much they're paying you and what the heck they're getting in return. Your best bets is to talk to local companies/tuners and see that they are willing to give you in exchange for you putting their stickers and parts on your car. Even from a point of view of a team though, personal relationship is everything so get networking.

im "sponsored" by Vivid....they sent me stickers, they want you to go to events (which they will reimburse you for) and supposedly get discount on parts...although the one thing i asked for pricing on, they wouldnt even match the lowest price i found elsewhere....

Not to pick on vivid specifically but this happens all the time with sponsored cars. the sponsor makes all kinds of demands for your time and your car, to the point where it's not even really your car anymore other than that you're the one that pays for it.. and you never really get much in return.

yeah, this is the first experience ive had with it at all. all current mods were paid full price by me...saw the thing on their website and figured, why not...the rest ive already stated. the stickers are not on my car, and will not be on my car until i get some kind of "deal" from them. like stated earlier, unless you have some kind of personnal connection you're gonna be paying retail for most everything
