Intakes are bad?
.....idle gas law......that's a good one!
Generally speaking, increasing air flow to your motor via a cai will only imprtove the performnce of your car. It's never a good idea to get ANY filter wet - especially your CAI filter!
I just intalled the Blitz induction cover and LM filter on my EVO 9 MR and with no tuning noticed an improvment in repsonse - the best $90 I ever spent on this car! I also left the cold air feed in place to help push fresh air directly to the filter. When I wash the car, or drive in the rain, I replace the induction cover with the stock cover.
I say......CAI?.....go for it!
Ride:

OK I had an 03 Evo with the APS CAI and I can confirm that you cannot use it as it goes in the place where you have the ACD control (I think). So forget the APS. As for any kind of intake it depends on how far you intend to take the car.
I got mine because I intended little by little to convert it into a track car with some daily driving duties. As for the water I simply stayed out of puddles. If you plan to eventually turn the car into a monster go ahead and get a good quality intake (I vote Buschur - not the prettiest but all of his stuff makes POWER.) If you intend to keep it a daily driver then leave the stock box on.
As for the heat from the engine bay I have seen a lot of people use very creative ways of getting fresh air to the filter so just realize that evey engineering problem has a solution if you have enough money or time & elbow grease you can solve that issue. I think Apexi has an intake with a box to keep engine heat away from the filter.
So look at the posts and judge them for yourself. Everybody here has a point but in the final analysis the decision is yours to make. Have fun!
PS you should do a search and you'll find that this issue has been beat to death already...
