Good morning

first post on the evo forum...

I'm sure my current car is highly frowned upon here, so i'll try and not bring it up. I'm looking for some awd action now as my current traction problems limit my power level needs. Anyway, I'm thinking an 05 with an exhaust and ems would be a good start. I know the 06's make more power from the mivec and better turbo...but i don't know if that's worth the extra cash when i'll probably end up with a gt35r anyways. Any advice would be great (other than "search noob") Thanks and hello to all.

No one frowns on SRT4's around here, It's just some of the cocky owners who can be very irritating. I'd definitely recommend getting a non-MR 8 if your looking for "big" power(drag). Their drivetrains car cheaper to replace/build and the non-Mivec heads are easier to modified. But if your into road racing/auto-x, the MR's do have an edge over the non-MR's with all the active differentials.

Salutations

Don't feel so bad, I owned a WRX first and then stradled the fence with my Evo.

Go with the non-MR and save some money.

Thanks for the advice so far, i think i want a bare bones 05 (no ssl package for weight reasons) cause the 05 comes with the better drivetrain, right? And 6 speed is no good for power with the thinner gears so definately no MR for me.

Oh boy..

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=210221

6 speeds have been breaking because of overheating from long road race sessions. Haven't read one about it breaking because of power.

Are you just buying a car to drag race it?

well, i've never done a road race...but i would like to the option to be able to take the car to different venues. It would mostly be drag though.

05 should be good w low miles u can prob get it around 24k depending on the seller or how good u can negotiate. No ssl means also no hids nor fogs.if u don't care for fogs go for it u can always upgrade to hids. Also remember once u mod u can kiss the warranty bye bye since mitsu will void if u put a sticker hehe. I don't dislike srt owners they seem to dislike me since everytime they are near me all i hear is the bov peesshhhh pessshhh...

That's the mating call. They get excited when they see another turbo car and can't help themselves I guess.

hahaha

yeh, i don't care for the hids and fog lights, speakers, sunroof and stuff i just wanna go fast

I've been doing a lot of pricing, on different routes and what not and i'm sure i'll encounter my share of speed-bumps. I'd like to get one that has already been stroked to 2.3 but if i can't...how much can the stock block handle...saw somwhere someone said up to near 500hp...sounds a little high, no oil pump failure or balance shaft problems..?

With a proper tune, people have done 500+ on the stock block. The only "weak" point of the stock engine would be the pistons. If I were you, I'd look for one that was stock or near stock.

That's mighty impressive. I assume a meth injection setup with mid 11's for an afr is a must for nearly 500hp on the stock block. That's good to know, thanks.

Meth is a good idea. I know you can run 11s with an evo IX on the stock turbo(edit: it's also doable with the VIII)... anyhow.. here's the 11 second list thread..
