I Am A Bmw Tech And I Have To Say That Its Probably One Of The Most Fun Cars To Drive In Are Line Up But Its Apples And Oranges. Plus The E90 Is Not A Low Maintinance Car, Buy That I Mean, We Got Problems. I Could Prob. Get Fired If Someone At Bmwna Read This, But Its The First Turbocharged Motor We Have Ever Mass Produced Let Alone A Valvtronic Turbo. Were Im Going With This Is That If You Do Decide On The 335 Be Paticient With Your Service Department Were Trying!!!!!
if you own a MR...add 4kg to your roof then drive a slamon and then remove the 4kgs and try again.

Not only was there the famous 2002 Turbo of the late 70s, but a number of current European Beemer Diesels are turbo engines.
i have to start off by saying that you guys are so quick to jump off topic to correct (or think your correcting) that you lose point of what the original discusion was, its really quite anoying. #1-it was early 70s,(73-75) not exactly shure, #2-they made 1600 or so(that is a far cry from mass produced and U.S. NEVER SAW THEM) #3- did i really have to say gasoline, the n54 is gasoline, i mean if you want next time ill state ocatne rating, injector style ill get all the specs for you. #4- shut up and take the post for what its worth instead of being so critical, everything i posted was most likely understood by the people WHO WERE INTERESTED IN THE TOPIC. finally and my point is think if anything you stated or i stated helps in his decision on a 335 or not so you wasted rotazs' time my time and your time when you could have just shut up.
Is kinda funny..almost everyone have to compare an Evo, Sti and 335 when they make a purchase. I traded in a 04 M3 for a 06 MR. Tested all the cars as much as i wanted. I don't modified my cars except tires and light weight rims. Following is my reasoning on getting the MR. Pretty straight forward.
STI= best daily driving car, due to the low end torque. BUT damn ugly.....
335=excellant driving machine, pissed because have to pay above MSRP...
MR=last year of 4G63, got it $3k under MSRP....
btw...the $5k diff. for a MR comapre to a IX is so worth it if consider about the 2lbs saving on each forged wheel, 20 lbs on the aluminium roof, 6 speed and blistein. If you do does mod after market, I don't think $5k will be enuf.

re:
two very different cars for very different reasons. i dunno where you're from, but if it snows heavily. go with the EVO. once the weather hits, the evo will really shine. stock for stock, the bmw will probably be a better dd, nicer interior, higher civilization index for spring/summer. mod wise, the 4g63 is time tested. throw 8-10k worth of mods on the evo (difference in cost of 335 vs evo) and i'm sure u'll have a pretty competitive evo. RWD against AWD handling is also very very different. if you like drifts, go with the bmw. if you like drifting in the snow, go with the evo.
i've had an evo viii mr for a little over a year and a half. still stock except for underbody protection. it still impresses me, on tarmac, on dirt, on snow. - i dunno where the evo keeps pulling tricks out of its bag, but the car is absolutely amazing, u will not be disappointed.
it all comes down to what you want to do with your car, mods, autox, rally, track, drag, the evo is very versatile. we run the winter road rally series in the finger lakes region upstate NY. you can do that with an evo. you'd be hard pressed to try anything like that in the 335i..and not slide into a ditch.
the MR stood out in my head cause it's rare, and every part is fully functional. the bilsteins are basically dampers that keep the car pinned to the ground. the roof lowers the mass. 6th gear is handy for 130+.

I was faced with the same decision when I got my Evo.
I test drove the 335i, and even though it's a very, very nice car ($51k optioned out the way that I like), it just did not leave me as giddy as the Evo. It's fast, but you don't feel the speed. The cabin is a very nice place to be.
It depends on what you want. You could always get the Evo, drive it for a year, absorb the depreciation, and then get the 335i next year. That way you won't have any regrets.
