I learned how to drive stick on a 5.0L Mustang. It was easy, all that torque made it very forgiving. It took about 3 hours of practice out in the middle of nowhere until I felt good enough to drive it in traffic and it was smooth sailing from there on. The EVO should also be pretty easy to learn on.

I was in the same situation like you. 22 and buying a evo, my first manual transmission car. i drove my friends m3 like 2 or 3 times, and got the hang of it. I would say just buy the evo, and learn how to drive manual slowly. Don't worry about other people, and just take your time. You'll get it in no time.

Good luck

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for there great input. I have taken everything you guys have said to heart. I won't buy a MT car simply to learn on, I will go straight for an EVO. Now picking which Evo i want is a completely seperate question that has been touched on in the forums a multitude of times, so i will just search for it.

Thanks again Everyone For all your help,

Pedro

I say go for the Evo man. You'll get it down in no time if you already have the basics down. When I bought my first stick I had 2 days to learn it before I had to drive to my next military command. I had no clue how to drive it, and had my friend drive it home from the dealership, and then give me a crash course on some back roads. By the end of the first week I was completely comfortable dirving it anywhere.

I bought the Dodge pickup to learn on, advise that if possible. You cannot rent a manual car, it just cannot be done. I tried that first, they do not have them as US drivers do not use a stick. If you go easy, you can do it on your new car, just BE GENTLE!!!! Good luck.

p.s., the Dodge still runs great (166,000 miles), 2nd clutch, put in new just before I bought it.

go straight for the evo! driving MT is easy once you get the basics down. like someone else said, dont do anything stupid like dump the clutch at 7k, and dont stall in front of your friends or hot girls

Good choice on going straight for the Evo. Besides, you'll love driving it so much you'll get the hang of it even faster. Which Evo to get is another question. There was a black one in P'cola Florida for sale.....
