06 Evo or 04 GTO?!?
Why are you making these comments. He ASKED which one of the two cars he should pick. Not counsel him how he should spend his money.
It is irrelevant on how much he makes. Please refrain on making such comments in the future.

What about a used 05 Evo? Check out the For Sale section.
Trust me here, the 04 goat is a boat. Yes that happens to rhyme. It was underpowered, heavy, and does not handle anything like an Evo.
Ah! Totally missed this. Paragraphs!
$1500, ya save your cash, stay in school, get a cheaper car - there will always be used Evos around (or Evo X, XI....down the road). Thats not enough for rent (or house pmts), car, food, gas, maint., insurance....BUT your cash, your car.

. I know the goat is a boat, it's decent in a straight line though.

You can get an 06 no problem for under 30k. Don't forget there is a big difference between the 04 gto and the 05/06. The 05/06 has the LS2 motor, which pushes out an additional 50 hp. Stock for stock, the GTO is most definitely faster than the evo.
The evo is a great choice as well, but it is an expensive car when considering the other car you mentioned.
If you have any questions about the 2 let me know, we have an evo 8 and a 05 GTO. Also locally there are tons of 05/06's for sale.
Good luck, either way you are in a win win situation.

Evos are 13.0-13.4 i believe. The GTO has ripped off about the same, and some have seen 12.7-12.9 i think.
They drive differently that's for sure. If you're going to do a lot of driving everyday as well, the GTO is much better for that. Also those seats are enough to make you fall in love.
Great choices no matter what one you pick. Good luck buddy!

get the evo, but you dont NEED a 06, look at a 05 evo 8, thats what i got for a great deal and there are plenty more out there. I was gunna get a 03/04 cobra but where i live in new jersey i woudnt be able to get out of my driveway if i had momre than 1/90000000000th of a inch of snow. so you also gotta look at practicality for the area of which you live. Both cars take synthetic oil, both take 91+ octane, both get terrible gas milage if you dont keep your foot out of it. Just boils down to what you want.
Go an tell the mits. dealership you will pay only 28k for it and see what they say. I use to sell cars a while back and depending on how desparate they are in the winter season to move a car and hit volume incentives, they will work with you. Finance for 72 months and try to put down a bit more down payment. Make sure you have good cradit or get someone who does. I have friends who got EVO MR's for 30K. I bought 2 evos since they first introduced it and i paid 28k for my black one and traded that in for a silver one a year later and paid 29K. A rule of thumb is $174 per every $10000 financed. Good luck man

Best I personally have seen was 12.6 in a 04 GTO with DR, SLP LM2, Headers, and a tune.
At your income level I would try and find a clean Talon TSI or Eclipse GSX and pay cash for it. Payments suck, and EVOs are a bit expensive when you consider payments, insurance, maintenance, and modifications. I didn't buy my EVO until I could afford to pay cash. If you keep out of debt, you can afford to drive/modify and older nice car, have money for other fun stuff, and start saving and investing for a dream car. My .02 FWIW.
I own an 06 Evo and have driven an 04 GTO.
I will say I wasn't a huge fan of the GTO's when I first saw them. But I actually really enjoyed the drive. It has power everything, and damn comfortable seats. The shifter leaves something to be desired as it's spongy and has a very long throw. Otherwise, it was a good car to drive. Had a good powerband that made day-to-day acceleration very comfortable.
Don't know the WHP difference between the LS1 and LS2 powered cars but I would imagine it's not a whole lot.
I raced stock for stock against the same 04 GTO and he pulled like crazy up top. 2nd and 3rd gear were close, but once I hit 4th, he started to walk away pretty easy. They are quick.
