Hey guys my name is steve and I live in the bay area, I am planning to pick up my first performance import tomorrow. I have had domestic vehicles all my driving life (8years) and had a couple honda's for commuter vehicles. I am trying to find a new passion as sport bikes arent the most practicle thing in my life considering I am trying to pursue a career in law enforcement. I am buying a red 03 evo with 31000 miles and a few basic mods. It has been set up nicely with strut tower braces front and rear, rear sway bar has new brakes and the power mods consist of HKS HI Power Carbon Titanium stainless exhaust, HKS Stainless Downpipe, HKS Drop in element filter, WORKS Hi-Flow Cat, WORKS P2 Flash. I plan to do a couple track days with it so I can learn how to properly go fast with four wheels rather then two, but it will be my daily driver so I would like to keep up on the maitenance and things. On a side not I have friends with turbo supra's and things of that nature so I will be on the never ending power hunt also. Not knowing a lot about the evo, what should I start looking towards for more power that is of reasonable cost?
42R turbo

first thing i would do is get a program liek evoscan or mitsu logger and the tactrix cable and check up on the tune to make sure its 100%
i thought my mail-in was great until i logged and it found large amounts of knock.

lol that is pretty unreasonable pure player. common mods would be cams, hks or gsc cams if you are staying on stock turbo or revolvers or juns if you are going to a big turbo cam gears port and coat on your exhaust manifold, a larger turbo you can get a bolt on turbo like a buschur 20glt or you could go for a turbo kit. buschur, ams turbotrix and shearer among others offer good turbo kits. you could do lower intercooler pipe, a new front mount intercooler, i am partial to ams. a boost controller, cams like i said, injectors, alchy and meth injection, there is tons of things to do. check out the staged packages on the ams and the buschur websites, those should lead you in the right direction. good luck with the car

as far as power some gsc 272/272, find out if you have the larger hotside that comes on the 05-06
Newbie
Yeah, consensus is that the 10.5 turbo hotside is a good upgrade for the '03-'04 Evos.
And the ported and coated exhaust mani already mentioned.
Maybe an Invidia 02 housing, but get more feedback on that. It looks good, but I have not seen any numbers on that.

ugh it sbeen posted so many times haha.. "search"
sry had to say it
but common minimum performance mods would include.
TBE (turbo back exhaust)
Boost Controller
Intake
LICP (lower intercooler pipe)
Evo 9 Turbo (if u wanna keep it cheap)
Bigger hotside 10.5
Camshafts (272/272), Cam Gears
maybe injectors.. not nessissary
Also Meth or Alky is amazing, when used right.. when tune wrong say bye bye engine
other than that, a turbo kit. or 20g bolt on
and dont forget the most important part, a good tune from a respectable tuner
also a good clutch.

Thanks for the feed back guys, and I have used the "search" function but I thought I might ask since I was posting in the newbie section.
Another question I didnt see much of an answer to is would it be worth an extra $10-15 per tire to do 255 instead of 235's???????

I guess the larger footprint would be good for the track. For ultimate speed you'd need a very light wheel to surpass or match the stockers. Buschur's web page has a nice weight reduction section on it with tire sizes. Originally Posted by ultimatesteve

You may consider taking this question to the motorsports section of the forum and ask them if you plan to run the car on a road course

From Buschur's Site:
- Replaced Factory Rims w/ SSR Competiton 17" wheels: 6.4lbs (Weight loss using stock size/brand tires will be more, this is a total weight saved factory in the a larger tire (255/40/17).

The important question is why you would want to do this? Is this going to be a daily driver? If so road noise is already a shocker with the 235's. Really, the evo can hit up the track right out of the box. The stock Advans will last a year so don't do anything with the tires until they are totally beat. As for modding the most basic list would be:Originally Posted by ultimatesteve

The best thing to do would be to buy the car, leave it stock for a while, and read as much as you can on this site about the pro's and con's of modding a brand new, expensive car. If money is no object and you are not worried about a warranty then have at it.

I think I am going to stick with 235's and get a set of the azenis rt-615's and call it a day. I realize I "should" just drive it, but chances are I wont considering that my friends have turbo supras, and supercharged mustangs and stuff like that.Originally Posted by evrblazin
