RPM Difference MR vs IX

I have a IX SE and in 5th gear at 60mph I am doing 2,750 rpm.

So for MR owners what RPM are you Guys at in 6th gear and at around 60mph?

Thanks.

My 9 MR currently has 2900 miles and cruising at 60 mph the tach reads about 2.6k - 2.7k RPM; for the first ~1.5k miles the tachometer was reading about 3k RPM at 60 mph.

It should be lower. The max speed on the MR is about 162 whereas the EVO with the 5 sp is around 157mph.

will the 9 MR do 162 out of the box, or will it speed cut at 150ish?

I'm not sure if there's a speed cut off on the EVO, but if there's one you can always change it by flashing the ECU. The gearing on the 5sp/6sp limit the max speed to 157/162.

I think you might be remembering incorrectly. The RPM at a particular speed will not change after you put some miles on the car.

I believe ya, but if this is true then why is the mpg on the MR lower than the 5 spd GSR?

I believe it is because the 6 spd has closer gearing ratios than the 5 spd lowering mpg on the MR. Not 100% sure though, but its an educated guess.

because your shifting more often and the rpm's stay up more because of the closer gear ratios.

Thanks Guys.

So having a 6 speed will not lower my commute rpm.

You know I will check when i leave today, My dad was asking this same question comparing it to his car, but i swore my RPM'S at 60 were less than 3000, more like 2700-2800 but I'll have to look.

I was told that the gear ratios on 1 - 5 are the same for the various IXs...The difference being that the MR has a 6th gear which would lower your RPM at 60 mph and improve your MPG. That said, a simple search online tells a different story:

EVO & EVO RS EVO MR
1st: 2.785:1 1st: 2.909:1
2nd: 1.950:1 2nd: 1.944:1
3rd: 1.444:1 3rd: 1.434:1
4th: 1.096:1 4th: 1.100:1
5th: 0.761:1 5th: 0.868:1
Final drive: 4.529:1 6th: 0.693:1
