Thumbs up ---First MODS?--

So I have been following Evo's since there days in Europe and intro to Rally Racing in Europe. A friend of the family has been racing in the SCCA (formerly) Pro Rally for years and I have been interested in the Evo since I knew it would be coming to the US. This upcoming spring he will be selling me his Black '03 Evo and I cant wait! He has an exhaust, BOV (not sure what kind or if it's VTA or recirculating), and I think that's basically it. I want to start modding the car and have been looking at Vishnu's 360 HP package. But what real basics should I start out with? I want a powerful street car that will be able to take STi's, but not totally kill the economics of the street or commute to a vacation spot. Start off with....Fuel pump, air induction, go with the vishnu kit, intercooler??? Any input woud be greatly appreciated. I have been following this site for a while now and have finally made it official to become a member, so I'm excited as I see most of the feed back is very good. Also, what kinds of differences are there between the 8 and 9 as far as power, should I look for a 9 instead of an 8? I can afford it so that is not really an issue. Thanks in advance!

My advice would be to start with a IX as opposed to the older VIII. The IX's respond better to the basic mods. So' you'll get a higher power return per dollar spent. You'll spend less money getting a IX into the high eleven's than you would with an VIII.

The IX's turbo has an improved compressor side vs. the VIII turbo, which is good for an extra 10-15 WHP. Also, the IX has an upgraded MIVEC cylinder head with better coolant passage design, affording improved combustion chamber heat removal and higher knock resistance. The IX also has more agressive ECU settings from the factory.

Altogether, the IX is a more highly evolved Evo, IMO.

ya the IX has more power than the VIII...i believe someone on here had cams and exhaust in his VIII and still only made the same power as the stock IX..

good first basic mods is a TBE, and drop in filter..if you get a tune which will allow your car to run much better with those mods and use full potential outa them get yourself a walbro255 fuel pump and a dejon MBC and you should be at around 310hp (from what ive heard)

i have all those mods on mine and its awsome..but i havent gotten it dyno'ed yet

Bump....Also, I know there are many discussions on here about BOV. Are there any VTA's that do not stall the engine? Also, I know the HKS SSQV has been regarded as not so good for this car, so what are the two best for the EVO 8, recirc and vta? Thanks All

no.. unless you have a stand a lone system like AEM EMS you must have a recirculating bov... its better.. some people have claimed to put a VTA with their maf but get a reciruclated bov.. greddy, mr bov, forge are all good.

Haha, that's funny, I just graduated from Wentworth this past spring. What is your major/year? I dont think I ever saw your evo there, but then again I lived in an apt across Huntington.
