Lotsa questions about the Evo (10 to be exact)

Hi, I'm new to the forums and looking to getting a used Evo IX in a few months. A couple random questions that have been on my mind...

1) Any reason why an aftermarket clutch for Evos costs $2,000+? it seems excessive compared to an S2000 or 350Z.

2) For people who have added 50-100HP from mods on their stock Evos, does the stock clutch handle the extra power well? how about the differentials?

3) How would you lauch an Evo when you are at the dragstrip? I've heard of 5K clutch drops but it seems that would destroy the differentials!

4) What is the highest quality/most expensive turbo catback exhaust on the market?

5) Anyone using/used Toyo RA-1 tires for the street/track? how do you like them?

6) What is the widest wheels/tires that can fit without modifying the fenders?

7) Do you have to idle the car a few minutes after hard driving to let the turbos cool down?

8) How much abuse can the stock clutch/differentials take as far as tracking/mods?

9) Can you do drifts and powerslides on a stock Evo without destroying your drivetrain?

10) With a manual boost controller, what is a conservative psi to be running on stock motor?

Thanks for any help, hoping to get the Evo IX by summer!

The stock clutch is dependent upon the driver, and how you launch the car.

Act clutches ~$500 and you can resurface your OEM flywheel for about $50 bucks, so not all clutches cost 2k, an exedy twin hd costs $1300, but the 2k+ clutches are the heavy duty triple carbons.

Dropping the clutch on an AWD car isn't good, I suggest learning how to launch doing a very quick slip.

Some say the xs power tbe have great welds and others say ARC, is all dependent upon how much you want to spend.

You do not need to let the car idle for a couple of minutes, just don't got WOT and then turn your car off.

Use the search button.

7) Yes, that would be recommended. You can get a turbo timer.
9) No, but you shouldn't try it, especially since its AWD.

Hello, I see you are new here. In the future please search. There is a lot of info on all these subjects.

Here is a freebe:

1) Clutch - $500-$1000+, Install $500-800. Depends on type and whatnot.

2) Depends on how you drive it. If you drag race 100whp more and launching will make the clutch unhappy.

3) Search 2step or launch control. Advance search with my screen name.

4) Huh, most expensive? Like wasting money? There are tons of TBEs out there.

5) Lots like them also search Falken RT615.

6) On stock wheels - 255/40/17. Otherwise depends of offset, dia.,...

7) If I am at the track - yes. If Im just driving normal on the street - no.

8) See 1,2,3 and its driver dependent.

9) First off - AWD, if you want to drift get RWD. Secondly, do not drive like that on public roads.

10) 20-23 on a IX. Higher boost can and will stretch your headbolts - ARPs will fix that. It also depends on oct. and tune.

Honestly, just by reading your questions, I can tell your evo won't last too long if you plan to do some of those things that you asked about.
