Shifting "thunk" noise...

Hey folks, pleasure to be part of the community. I am learning a ton from reading everyone's posts and experiences and no I am not all going crazy slapping mods on the first week I got it. Still bone stock, coming up a year later (March). There is so much to learn about this car that its unreal and I am taking my time and learning as I go, anyhow...

I have an 06 MR and lately I have been noticing an audible "thunk" when i shift into new gears. I am not high reving it, I am not racing it (too hard, normal road crap, nothing too terrible), matter of fact I dont think I have ever had it over 6000rpm. I cant figure out if its a clutch issue or a transmission issue. I have been babying it lately and its been good, nothing in the past week, but still wanted to ask.

It normally happens when I shift around 4k rpm in the lower gears and when the higher gear catches, aka from 2-3 it "thunks" into place.

Its not normal and doesnt happen often, trouble is in a couple months I need to drive the Evo back to Maryland and I am curious if I should have it looked at before I go or just chalk it up to I am letting off the clutch too fast ? Or was it being a noob and driving it like crap when I first got it that the clutch is finally acting up.

Cheers,

It's fine, evos don't have the smoothest shifting transmissions.

The standard 5speed is pretty rough but the 6speed shift a lot smoother. However I've heard from many people that most MR still have a thunk when going into the gear.

No need to rush your shifts. If you take your time it should'nt "clunk"

just shift smoother, dont drop your clutch so fast when up-shifting and you wont ever hear that sound. It is just a thing you need to adjust your driving to eliminate, just take it a bit easier on the pull off when upshifting.

Happy boosting!
